I have a one-off (to my knowledge, this is the only one Tom Krein ever did and the waiting time was a couple of years) killer busse FBM, that has been reshaped, reground and rehandled by the man himself. Tom is currently no longer doing regrinds and if even if he re-opened his books for regrinds, it is unlikely he will do another one.
This started as a CGFBM. The blade was reshaped to remove the scallops on the spine, the corrugations on the sides, swedged, reground to 3/16" and thinned at the edge. The entire blade was satined.
Tom reshaped the handles since the original was uncomfortable in hand (the hump and bulge put pressure on my fingers). He also replaced the original with black canvas micarta and red liners.
The balance of the blade is now perfect - fast and very lively. With Tom's killer razorsharp edges, this monster is going to be a great cutter. No deadweight here at all. In fact, the blade is scary - I have the feeling that if you don't have the right technique, you're gonna take out one of your own limbs
If you like the feel of the original CG/FFBMs then this is not for you, if you want a turbo-charged cutter, then this is the knife for you, something you can ruck easily and not tire of carrying after the first 5 miles, and with that INFI steel, you know it will take you to hell and back.
