Here's a rough finish on one I'm working on. It's from 7/8 inch round W2.The blade is about 10 inches not counting the oval integral bolster.

Tai, man, you really need to write us a tutorial on how to forge those wicked blades! I really love the flow your blades have...

Cheers Rody

Tai, I love the curves. Your work shows a freedom that is uncommon in many maker's blades. How thick is the spine at the near end?

Thanks Tai. Looking real good, as always. Rough finish indeed. Can't wait to see the "finished" piece! I'm not sure that deep relaxation will be my path to perfecting blades, but it sure seems to works for you! Just looking at your work is an exercise in relaxation for me. Thanks, Phil

Thanks guys!

tdl, it's fairly hefty, but not clunky. It's a distal taper from about 5/16 inches down to about 3/16 inches at the sweet spot.

Speaking of that,... my wife says sleeping is my hobby. :)

Oh man, that's rough finished???? Looks more like "close to finished" to me --- BEAUTIFUL.

5/16 tapered to 3/16 --- sounds like it may end up a very elegant tank, just perfect

Tai,

I remember the photo of your heat tortured (reticulated) silver. I used to love doing that kind of stuff. Ironwood, dramatically textured silver and one sweet blade. Sounds good.

Some day I hope to see some of your work in person, and you too!!! A few different folks told me about you when they saw me draw filing a practice blade I forged (my first "blade" ever :)) at the recent CBA Spring Conference. Seems like you made quite an impression demo'ing/teaching some while back. Maybe someday I'll be in the right place at the right time.

BTW, how'd your daughter's paper go on her Dad's unique career?

All the best, Phil

I think that demo was back in 2004.

She said she got an "A" on the paper, but was more concerned what I thought about it. It was hard for me to look at it objectively. I was very touched by it. I thought it was cute, but it didn't really strike me as being all that scholarly. Of course she's only a first semester freshman. I forgot to ask what class it was for, but I think it was probably just an English class. She's the apple of my eye,... one of those rare people that is just always naturally happy and fun to be around. She always cheers me up! :)
