Just finished reading the book, One Second After. It is a fictional account of what happens to more or less a community after an nuclear device is denotated over the U.S. and the aftermath of the EMP.

FWIW, I recommend it as it should provoke thought into what you would do should the SHTF.

I suspect many here are already familiar with what an EMP does and what to expect, thus this book maynot hold any surprises. Nonetheless, it is very entertaining and the author took great pains to be accurate.

Good suggestion for reading. I found it to be a very sobering book and well worth the read.

I heard Neil Bortz give it a good review a couple of weeks ago. I went to Amazon and looked it up after that. Durn, just hardback. I'm wanting to wait for softback cover to save a few dollars.

I kinda think a big solar flare is a more likely scenario. Same results, just a different way to get there. And actually a lot more widespread.

I've read the first three "Lost Regiment" books by Forstchen, good stuff. He pays attention to detail, especially concerning technology. I'll definetly check this one out.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Thanks for the suggestion!

I don't tend to read much non-historical fiction, but after recommendations from this forum I've recently read "Through the Tunnel," "Dies the Fire" and am currently reading "Raven's Prey," all courtesy of the public library. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of them and recommend them heartily.

I just hope nothing goes off this weekend!! Heading for the Ukraine  Would like to get there in one piece.

Well, I put One Second After on hold at the library. I'm number 12 on the hold list, but they have five copies! Fingers are crossed that I get it sometime soon.

I just finished the book as well. Very good story and well written. It is very sobering though. I became more convinced than ever that is is very difficult to be well prepared for a TEOTWAWKI scenario. Chance will play a significant role. Moreover, unless you live somewhere remote and entirely self-sufficient you'll be caught between immoral gangs and decent people who default to a collectivist mindset.

thanks for the heads up.... i've gotten some EXCELLENT book recommendations from this forum and just downloaded this one off itunes to my itouch... it's on the slate for putting me to sleep tonight.

Chris,

Raven's Prey was written by Slim Randles. It's a very enjoyable and very fast read. It's a very thin book though, so you may want another one handy if you're a heavy reader.
