I know some of you have elaborate sharpening set ups--but, what do you do when you are "on the go" and can't take your whole system? I use a Lansky and an old leather belt, but I want something to toss in my pack for an epic elk or deer hunt.
What do you do?

I'm quite fond of the DMT credit card sharpeners. The fine and extra fine cards work pretty well for touch ups in between uses, and they're easy to carry around in a wallet.

Just purchased a few of the new Buck EdgeTek double -sided pocket diamond stones. At only 2 mm thick, 325/750 grit they pack anywhere and are going to replace all my DC4's. Better quality and a lot cheaper, imo.

They are about one by four inches in area.

The Spyderco doublestuff 303MF stone is two stones glued together with a leather pouch. It comes with a medium and fine stones and measures at 1 inch x 5 inch.

My travel sharpener is a Spyderco Sharp Maker. It packs well and works great. It is relatively heavy so I wouldn't take it for back packing.

+1 on the Spyderco Doublestuff, perfect travel sharperner small, light and self contained... Great for field touchups

I carry a Falkniven DC4 and a DMT Diafold serrated knife sharpener. The DMT serrated sharpener works great on knives with a belly to the blade.

This is what I take as well. Between that and my leather belt, most anything I do to my edge can be handled until I get home to the Sharpmaker and loaded strops.

Lansky Turnbox and a Sharpshooter Sheaths Field Hone. I've been thinking about just using some adhesive to stick a strip of leather onto the bottom of the Turnbox.

^This.

I think these would be the ultimate best, in terms of portability and versatility. I already have the Fine and EF, and will add the Coarse at some point, I'm sure. And the leather belt I wear with my jeans is what I use for a strop most times, even when at home. I've even applied some green compound to the inside of the belt (rough side). These items will handle anything I could need, in a pinch.

+1 I glued a piece of 1000 grit grinding film to the back of a fine and the combination works well.

I have been trying out a Spyderco doublestuff with a nice piece of stiff hard leather with green compound. All fit in the swede pouch and fit nicely in the pocket. You can maintain an edge for a while with them.
