One thing about the Wegner that I DON'T like

Just received a new large Wegner and I really like the knife. Except one small detail. Why couldn't Spyderco use either Teflon, or preferably bronze washers in this design? The thin, plastic type washers that they use are great for keeping that tight, precision look where the blade hits the backspacer, no ugly annoying gaps on either side of the blade. Just like a top-notch slip joint. The problem is that the G-10 handles have really scratched up the ricasso area on the front of the blade due to a lack of clearance. This is not a problem on the liner side. This is also a problem on my Starmate. There is absolutely no reason that this could not be incorporated on the Starmate. I just have not been able to adjust the Starmate to the point of zero blade play and smooth action to the same degree of my LCC's or Sebenza's. These knives both use bronze washers. Coincidence? Me thinks not. My BM's also have better results with their Teflon washers. This is in no way a slam on Spyderco. It's just when a knife is so perfect in all other phases of design, it is just a little disappointing that a few more pennies weren't spent to make it what it could be. Is there something I'm missing here? Waiting to be enlightened.

Guess I've gotten so fond of my Wegner that I kind of forgot what you're talking about. It was awful tight at first, and as you say, left marks on the ricasso on the side without the liner.

I know that Spyderco leaves less clearance than about any other company, and I see that as sign of quality, but I would have liked a bit easier to open Wegner, I think. Now, it is very smooth and easy to open, tho we're not talking a flick-open looseness, but just an easy, bearing sort of feeling.

I hope yours loosens up quickly and that this problem fades into the background for you as it has for me. I do have to admit tho, that I was quite frustrated for a week or two at the inability of TufGlide to make G-10 slick.
