So since its roughly been a year since the tweeners were released I figured it'd be cool to start a thread to see how much they've been used, loved and modded by each owner...

Even if you've just gotten your 15, 16 or 17 post 'em up here. I want this to be like the photo threads we've got for the 2, 7, 9 etc...

Here's mine a few weeks after I'd gotten it, stripped the blade and made a set of micarta for it.

The micarta was OK but eventually I pulled them off and went back to the stock scales with white G-10 liners. The blade was also convexed and I squared up the spine too. Also shortened the sheath, added a leather belt loop so it carries more like a dangler sheath and added some stainless hardware.

So lets see some of pics of your tweeners (Oh man, that sounds so weird saying that :barf:)

I love my 16 the most. It has been transformed many times over the last year:

There is something just "right" about the subtle curves of the BK15:

The BK17 is also a heavy user in my stable.

The tweeners are great knives and I can't imagine the Becker lineup without them now. I remember the looong wait for them to come out but since they have been around they have become integral to my knife tasks.

Cam, I'm surprised you didn't bend some kydex for yours.

Btw, I know here they run $65-85, what are they running you down there?

I'm at work, don't have any pictures to post up right now I will later tomorrow though.

Eero, you're right about the 15...At first I didn't pay much attention to it or the 5 but after awhile I did see their appeal. They remind me of those middle eastern daggers.

CamH: how did you shorten the sheath??

I kinda like the tweener and newer stock sheaths so I didn't really see a need for kydex pants. I actually order all my Beckers and most blades from over in the states since even with shipping its still cheaper but tweeners here retail in the mid 80s so with postage its like $95 (that's online retailer, most storefront shops will probably have it for like $150)...In the states its about $65 and with shipping its $85 so still cheaper ehehe . The large Beckers are jacked up a little more to around the $110-$130 shipped (again, online, my local surplus store has the BK-9 for $250 haha!).

I am thinking of having several sheaths. One that is permanently attached to the pack, and one that I carry EDC. I have been tempted to try Kydex, just haven't had the cajones to yet.

My love affair started with the FPR BK16.

I had wanted one since we first saw them back in May of 2011 at Ethan's. However, after listening to the boss as well as Moose go on about the full flat grind production version, I had to try one of those out as well.

It is a great knife, and I used the hell out of it, but then one day I managed to snag an unmarked saber ground BK16, and after getting my FPR BK16 back it was time to go back where I felt comfortable.

Now that I had a pristine, unetched saber ground version, I could afford to mess around with my FPR one and really use it the way I wanted to.

Got it stripped, and started to get it where I wanted it, but I made some mistakes along the way as well.

(Don't get drunk and stipple, it never works out the way you would hope.)

Finally, after settling on the right number of liners, replacing the hardware, stripping the blade, squaring the spine, and giving it a PCB etchant patina, and then finally getting the kydex worked out and the handle scales sandblasted, I got it exactly where I wanted it.

(The one in the middle.)

I have seen my fair share of knives, and used several, but very, very few have come as close to making my "perfect" knife as the saber ground BK16.

Derek, why do you prefer the saber over the FFG? Is it the extra metal or aesthetics? Just wondering since after trying out the 17 I actually prefer the thinner grind of the 16. Also, how do you go about squaring the spine?

Here is what they were when I got them. You can see my first set of liners...they were pretty rough. The BK15 has a set of PB handles that I died with RIT dark green.

My favorite one to date. The BK15, stripped, white pinstripe liners, curvy perfection.

My FPR BK16 with spalted elm handles. It was a fun process, I learned a lot, and I even left some imperfections, knowing it would remind me if what to do differently in the future.

Some K9 modded tweeners. Love these...if I but an FFG 16, I may just have to send it his way to reprofile the clip.

I'm not really sure. It could be because I am coming from the BK2 and it was a huge solid piece of steel and I see the saber grind version as a smaller BK2 rather than a larger BK11. It could be the simple peace of mind due to heft and weight, or the fact that I can bend the FFG pretty easily by hand, whereas I cannot do so with the saber ground version. Ultimately though, after using them both, weighing the pros and cons, the saber version wins out for me as far as personal preference. One thing to consider though is that I am treating the BK16 as my "one knife solution" and not part of a several blade setup, so that might be why I feel more comfortable with the added heft of the saber 16. They are both fantastic, and I have beat on the FFG 16 as heavily as I have any other knife, and it stood up to it without any issues, but despite a slight increase in slicing ability the saber grind is where I reach every time. Could be because I am dense and do things the hard way, but I love my saber 16.

That's a nice photo Derek:

Thanks Dubz!
