Last year on May 1 I was laid off, and became a full time knifemaker. Saturday I'll be celebrating my one year anniversary as a full timer. Getting laid off hurt bad, but turned out to be a blessing. Plus, they did me a favor, and cut my pay before laying us off, making it easier and easier to make the money from knives.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank all of you, who have helped me learn this craft, and turn it into a trade. Also, much thanks goes to my wife. Without her support and understanding this would never have happened.

Thats awesome, Andy! You are doing very well for yourself. Not a lot of folks have that opportunity.

Wishing you the best for the years to come pardner:thumbup:

Congrats Andy!
It couldnt have happened to a nicer person.
When life threw ya lemons, ya made lemonade, and some fine lemonade it is.

I think it is cool as hell you were able to make the transition when you needed to and it worked out so well. I enjoyed meeting you at Blade last year, you have a lot of talent. I'm sorry you got laid off, but our community here is better off for it.

Thanks guys. Its been very rewarding, and I learned it all here.

I am very glad that what could have knocked you down actually just gave you the push you needed to get going in the right direction!

Congratulations in making it through the first, and probably toughest, year for a new business. The more I've seen of your work lately, the better I've liked it.

Thanks a lot everyone. Liking them better and better is the goal. If I can keep that up, I'll have accomplished something.

Brian, can't wait to see you at Blade Show. Same table? I'm at 4BB.

Way to go Andy. I'm happy to hear a good thing came from a bad thing. Keep up the great work.

Congrats Andy, and may your successes continue!
How long were you a part time maker for?

I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary of being a part-timer.

I did two or three years as a part time maker. 200 knives or so. I'm a slow learner.

YEAH BUDDY!! same table :)

Hopefully we wont spend all minute behind our tables and can say hi again :)

Congratulations! I hope your business thrives. It is heartening to hear stories like this, especially in these times.

A door was closed but a window was open.....keep up with the great work you are doing and most important - have fun doing it.:)
