Deer An Landers,

I'm wondering if any Canadians have ordered from onlinemetals.com and actually not paid the brokerage and a$$ rape charges that UPS makes up when importing into Canada. They have this page: http://www.onlinemetals.com/ohcanada.cfm and when going through the checkout they say that you won't even have to get out your checkbook.

Well, it sounds too good to be true and I know what they say when something sounds too good to be true.

You don't have to get out your checkbook because they don't take cheques, but you'd better have a visa or M/C, is what I'm guessing.

If UPS shows up and wants $50.00 or they don't leave the package, what recourse would there possibly be. Send it back and lose the materials plus a restocking fee?

sincerely,

Burned Once.

Ouch. That sucks. Do you know if they sent it back, or are just holding it at the nearest UPS building?

Hey 69_K

I'm not a maker-just a buyer and I can share your feelings about UPS,FED-EX,etc.,etc:mad:
I won't buy or do business with anyone in the US if they won't accommodate my requests to use USPS,and I let them know why.I don't know if it's possible to get your needed supplies some other way than f#$%$#G UPS-I hate the bastids with a passion:thumbdn:
They have quite a scam they're pulling on Canadians.I bought a Busse knife back in the 90's for $165 US and when I wasn't home when the brown truck of joy:rolleyes:tried to deliver they were nice enough that time to actually leave a note stating I could pick it up at their depot.
When I went to pick it up they wanted $71 CAD in brokerage fees, duties, taxes, etc.I politely told them they were freaking nuts and return it to sender.I got on the horn to Jerry and told him about it and he told me he'd take care of it.
I went back a couple of hours later and they just handed the package over and said have a nice day.Turns out Jerry ate the UPS charges:eek: and that's what made me a customer for life-superb customer service, warranty and the knives aren't that bad:p
On the CDN forum here at BF people are getting raped by UPS.They're charging duties on items brought in from the US-problem is there are NO APPLICABLE DUTIES on knives made in the US or any other country with friendly ties to Canada.A lot of people don't check or know and are getting ripped off.One guy was pissed off at what he paid to get his parcel released, and I told him that I'd bought $600 US worth of stuff in the last 3 weeks and I didn't pay one cent for taxes, duties, etc. to have it shipped via USPS.
I tell everybody I know about what these pricks are doing.Sorry RANT OFF.
Take it easy brother.

I was looking at some 304 stainless flat bar and round bar. Seems 304 is impossible to get here.

OK, now you really have me curious. Why 304? I actually do have a sheet of - not sure - maybe 3/32 that I kind of considered as scrap. Figured I might use it for slippie bolsters someday, 416 is more likely for that.

Rob!

For guards and pins. 416 would work as well.

 Figures. It sat in the rack for years and we pretty much gave away the last of it. Fair comment. I understand the UPS thing. New staff at Crucible shipped UPS last week. That hurt!

Rob!

At least Admiral is still using Postal service. All I owed yesterday for my package was $16.40 Tax.

Hmph! Linda always liked you best. :grumpy:

I just had 58 pounds shipped (legal for postal by 2 pounds and a few inches) and she told me UPS only or I could arrange for something else myself. She did, however, specify my preferred customs broker - so when I get raped, it will be gently.

Hey 69_Knives - are you C.M.??

Rob!
