I'm ready to buy today. I'm looking for the 26" axe and the 13" hatchet. I'd like to buy one of each that are made by Wetterlings. Does anyone know of a source?
jv, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Husqvarna stopped contracting with Wetterlings sometime last year, and the new Huskys are now made by Hultafors. Sadly, the consensus here and at Bushcraft USA is that the Hultafors are markedly inferior to the Wetterlings made Huskys.
When Wetterlings still made them the hatchet was just a re-branded Wetterlings Wildlife hatchet, and I believe Smoky Mountain Knifeworks sells them for under $55. The Multi-Purpose Axe was a custom head by Wetterlings as it was in between the weight of the Scandinavian Forest Axe and the American Felling Axe. They were made in small numbers and are now collector's items. Grab one if you see one on Ebay, as they are fantastic choppers and splitters and hold an edge well. I have one but don't plan to sell it unless things get real hard for me
