Only buy it if YOU really want it

I think it's a lesson a lot of people learn. One of the first knives I bought was a Surefire dart. They were 185 bucks new and I bought it for 95 thinking I was getting a great deal. I sold it for $60, a year later. Lesson learned.

Don't buy regular mass production knives expecting to not lose a lot of money selling them on later. ESPECIALLY of they are not knives in demand like Case, Broker, Surefire.

The best you can hope for is to buy desirable high end knives and expect to lose a few bucks or break even at best.

If you are talking about that Case Dale Earnhardt two-tone Russlock, you had listed a couple of times, then yes, you are going to have a hard time selling those anywhere....

To back this up with myself as an example, I have a small collection of Case knives and wouldn't mind acquiring more in the future.
However:
- I don't buy knives that advertise some other dude's name.
- I don't (won't) pay more for a pre-owned knife than what a new one costs.
- I avoid gaudy/silly colors.
- Since they are so common and mass-produced, I tend to only buy Case knives when on closeout pricing.

A quick search shows that Earnhardt Case did sell. So sometimes it's just a matter of being patient until the right buyer comes along.

Flipping knives is about the least profitable way to invest... Like, seriously, you WILL lose money unless you follow the trends and go for limited edition models and flip instantly.

That's how most things are, you don't go buy a pair of Levis, take them home and decide you don't like them, and expect to sell a USED pair of pants for NEW prices. FYI "LNIB" is a fancy way of saying USED.

So, just like 99% of consumer purchases, you WILL lose money reselling 99% of knives.

I wish I had a truckload of those Effingham Ek knives that were on closeout for $30 each in the 1990s. $30 was a fortune back then, so sadly I could barely afford a single $30 Ek Bowie. :(

There used to be a stack of Victorinox Whistle knives in the cabinet that cost $7 each. I gave most of them away before they could appreciate to their current collector prices. I'm not sad about that.
