Only One Benchmade

When read the first part of the question I thought - hmmm Rift, 94x or 710. Then you said "Rift, 940 or 710". That's about it then, isn't it? The Griptillian variations are great knives, but for the quintessential Benchmade, I'd choose from these three. And between these three, I think you should ask yourself if you prefer a BM Classic (710) or a BM Leading-edge (950) knife. Both are outstanding, but many 710 users have upgraded to the Rift because it's a more advanced design.

And I would be very surprised if you can tell much difference between D2, 154CM or S30V. BM does all of them equally well, so be comfortable with whatever knife you pick.

I've only owned the 940 and the 950/Rift so personally I'd go with the 940, which I've had for about 10 years. Everything about it works.

Another vote for the Ritter Griptilian!
Get an M4 version if you can swing it.
I got the earlier M2 versions and then bought WilkinGrips for them both. Excellent! Absolutely no regrets, they are the best knives I own. I have both sizes of the M4 version on Pre-order & both of them will get a Wilkins upgrade too, when I can swing it!

Benchmade 710 is a classic. BM 940 is my EDC due to ease of carry (I EDC and older 154CM 940 and have a few others 'cause I really like the form). Griptilians are in another class; there's a reason Doug Ritter chose that Benchmade knife to modify into his RSK -- it works. So yeah, get one (of each).

I'd get the full sized Ritter grip or the 710. Hopefully they'll bring back the AFCK in some variant, or that would be my choice.

There are a lot of votes for the mini grip/grip... it is a great knife especially the ritter grip(i enjoy that knife) and my gf has the pink one but if you are only going to get 1 benchmade I think you should get something with a better handle than the griptilian. I suggest a 940/943 or any other osborne model, the 707 sequel or 710, or a presidio.

the 940 is my edc and i love it.

Go with your first instinct, The 950!!!

I'm with this guy!! Good looking lineup FMB!:thumbup::D

943 for sure. It's one of the best models they ever made.
I wish I didn't have this habit of giving my small green Benchmades away or I'd still have mine.

I was excited about the 950 but it just doesn't feel right in my hand.
The 710 is great but blocky feeling and since I carry an AFCK all the time I cut myself trying to duplicate my every day chores. So it's a drawer queen.
The rest of the fantasy blades are great but are not edc for me.
Bring back the AFCK before mine falls apart!

The ritter grips are nice but they still are grips. I'd go with a 950-01 (or wich ever it is with the plain black handle :D)

I just picked up a Mini Dejavoo, and while it does not scream Benchmade, it is the sweetest locking folder I have owned in a very long time.

To me the osborne and the griptilian scream benchmade the loudest. I don't know the model numbers. Osborne is a nice piece too.

I think this is a great answer. Having said that, I EDC a Mini Grip. I have a Ritter Grip and, to me, for your first BM I wouldn't suggest it as many people are put off by the hollow sound of the scales, so I would add Mini-Grip to those above and say pick the one that feels the best in your hand.

Long-term, a 710 D2 is almost a must-have if you're that type of collector. Since you haven't mentioned price, I'll throw in the knife that's got me salivating at the moment and would get my vote for the "only one" BM- the new gold class M4 Grip with carbon fiber scales- yeah, baby! This could possibly be my ultimate EDC folder.

I'd pick the 710 or 940, leaning towards the 710, mostly because I tend to prefer g10 scales.
I like the look of the griptilians, but I find the handles feel a bit flimsy. I'm sure they're fine, but they don't inspire much confidence in me

I'd go with one of the Snody axis locks, nice designs with s30v and 154cm steel.

The only BM's I own are a yellow 556 Mini Grip, a 710 D2 and a Mini Nitrous Stryker D2. Of those three, on the rare occasion that I carry a BM I always grab the Mini Grip.

i love my Griptilian Ritters (the mini and the normal) but recently i have great fun with...
The bench Apparition 672 with G10 handle (much lighter than the version with the stainless liner and "kudu style" handle).
The clip is really low profil, steel is D2.
It's not axis lock but "Modified Locking-Liner w/ Optimiser Spring-Assist" which make it quite funny to play with...
