if you could only take one RAt knife camping/outdoors or on a military tour what would it be and why???

From my own camping experience I have come to like larger knives. Almost the bigger the better. So when it comes to rat cutlery knives, I would have to say the rc6. Though I wish that they would come out with a 9" blade, which would be very good for chopping chores.

RC4 PE hands down. For me the 4 is the best all around fix blade I have owned and used to date. It does everything very well, and the edge just snaps back with minimal effort. Gotta love Rowen 1095 :).

After building the shelter for the contest I would say the RC6 for me, the extra length was a plus when cutting limb's and cutting grass for the roof covering.

I'd go with the RC-6 as well. I don't think it's extra size would hurt and I think alot of times it would help.

As much as I love my RC-6 (she calls me from across the room), I think that for the multi-uses you are describing, you would be best served by the RC-4. It's a little lighter and easier to stow, can do most of the things the 6 can do minus a little chopping power, and seems to be generally more versatile. My 6 usually stays at camp and the 4 is usually on my hip when hiking.

As many will say here, you'll probably end up with both eventually any way....

The RC-4 would be my choice. It's big enough to handle most camping chores yet small enough to pack & carry easily. The RC-4 size would be more of an advantage over the RC-6 if it is going to be carried for general military use. If concealment or compactness was a big issue for military use, I would go with the RC-3.

I found a lot of use for a thicker blade in Iraq, so I'd probably take the RC-5. Paired with a good folder/multitool, I'd have done fine. Of course, since I wouldn't have taken just one, I'd pair the 5 with a 3, Izula, or HEST and would've definitely had all the bases covered.

RC-4 for its all-around utility. My favorite, though is the RC-3.

RC-4. Mines functioned flawlessly since day one.
It wears with work well too. Its batoned bigger logs than it probably should, but taken it in stride. Can hardly tell!

Ok.. Camping / Military Overseas Combat tour... Apples and Hand Grenades:

Apples - Camping - RC4

Hand Grenades - If I could only have one knife here....

RC3MIL

It can go in your pocket, on your KIT, in your BattleBag, On your Pistol Belt, etc. As well as the RC4.. but its more compact. I like Pocket Carry ability. My RC3MIL and Izulas see more action than others.

Only one?Well,I might have to go with the 6.If limited to one,I'd take the bigger blade, just because. When I was a Jarhead there were'nt as many sheeple to worry about.

I was able to skin and clean a deer with my RC-6 which told me it was well suited for small work (I said deer, not rabbit or gerbel). If I had just one RAT knife, it would be my RC-6 for sure since it can do the small work just as well as the big stuff like shelter building.
