Only one, Sebenza or Umnumzaan?

Is a difference of .015" in blade thickness and 3/10ths of an ounce in weight even noticable without calipers and a scale?

Both in hand the Um feels heavier maybe it's balance or in my head. As for blade thickness if I was slicing tomatoes all day I'd want the Seb

And the winner is? The Umnumzaan... I just pulled the trigger on the purchase. Thank you all for your suggestions! Now the waiting begins.

You'll like the Umnumzaan.

I couldn't make up my mind either, but I was lucky enough to find both ( side by side) at a gun & knife show in Poughkeepsie. I was ready to get the Seb, but my wife pointed out some of the nice features of the Umnumzaan so I bought it. It's a very well made knife and despite its size, it fits well in the pocket.

Good Luck...

I just ordered a Umnumzaan, too. I had EBay-ed away two Cold Steel folders, two Kershaws, a Hen & Rooster Bowie and two CRKT folders. Had more than enough to get one with a take down tool included. So it should be here early next week.
I feel pretty good about selling those and winding up with a 100 bucks and my new very first Reeve folder!

Jill, we bought them from the same seller an hour apart. Our new sons will share the same birthday of 06/25/09. I think we're going to be very happy with our new additions!

Yes, I'd had it on watch and there was 2. My funds in paypal was just released, I noticed "last one" above the Umnunzaan on watch. Went for a 45 minute hike and thought about it while walking. Came back and clicked buy it!

Sebenza ia a must have:thumbup:

But I am one of those that thinks everone should own at least one Sebenza in there life:p

I have both. The Umnum is a better knife. The Seb is better looking and has more of a history and reputation.

The Seb has never grabbed me..... but the Numzaan has grown on me since it was released. With the tanto version, even more so.

I have no problem with a more aggressive looking knife. The Seb just always looked too bland for my tastes...

That said, I still can't afford one at this juncture....

Ah well, something to look forward to!

One way or another you'll end up with both at some point. I just got my first Umnumzaan today and I love it already, but I still love my large Regular Sebenza most of all. I know the Seb and am comfortable with it's assembly, especially love the pivot bushing that the Umnumzaan doesn't have. Disassembling the Umnumzaan requires a special tool and loctite to reassemble and you have to be specific with the pivot tension unlike the Seb.

I say every first time CRK owner should start with a large Sebenza (it's really not large compared to many other folders, I'd say average) and get to know what made CRK great. Then when you get an Umnumzaan you'll really understand the differences. And that being said, try to find a large Regular instead of the 21.

Why the regtular and not the 21? I thought the 21 is an improvement over the regular. I hear opening it is easier.

You, of all people should know better. :) I mean, (not to change the subject but), take Striders for example... Some prefer and reco the CC version. They like it better. Which do you like better? Don't answer (I know which). These are all personal calls. Fwiw, most threads I've read have folks preferring the 21. I guess though, that the Regular is like an 'old friend' for a lot of people and it's become their reference.

I just bought a small sebbie, but I was in your shoes a few weeks ago. Like someone said above, I prefer a slicer. If I need to use a knife for heavy work, I'd rather use a cheaper heavy duty knife that I wouldn't mind doing damage to. I also work in an office in the city, a Umn or even a large sebbie would probably be too intimidating to use in the open.
That said, I'm sure you'll love the Umn. And there's always more holidays to flesh out your CRK collection.

I'll go with the Classic all the way, I have 5 large Classic's & 1 small Classic, Thats pretty much all I'll buy at this point, I like the writing on the front back side bolster CLASSIC M_M................. JMO
Actually I Like em all !!!!!!!!

I'm still not 100% sure what the difference between the regular, classic, and 21 are.

Some people prefer the regular blade shape, some prefer the regular handle appearance . . . the pivot mechanics of the regular is virtually identical to those of the classic / classic 21. Currently, the regular is only produced as a high end limited edition.
