Only showing a perfect knife, or involving people in the design?

I wouldn't even consider a pre-sale until you have a few years and a several hundred knives under your belt and know for a fact that you and your process are capable. We've all seen that turn out badly.

edit to add: a toy milling machine isn't gonna cut it. Been there, done that, got the T shirt. You need real machining centers if you're going to do much of this. These steels are a mother%^&*#@, it's not as easy as people think.

Around how many knives have you made to date?

Is there fully hand made carothers knives out there I should be looking for? (Not including the vorpal dagger :) )
 
^ about a thousand. I'm only now considering doing any pre-order sales.
 
Yes, he did say a thousand and if you could see what he has made, I'll bet you would be pleased with the quality in each one.
