Sort of a three part question but, which is the best choice for a limb chopper, camp tool, general purpose large blade?

Is the Cutlass Machete and Camper Machete the same blade with different handles? Is one thicker?

Is the RTAK 2 just like a smaller machete with a harder temper and better handle. Is the RTAK sheath any good?

Thanks for any help,I'm looking for something along this line that won't be too expensive.

Ka-bar makes a cutlass machete that looks like it would make a great limber/chopper. If you like khukuris, there are plenty of people ,myself included, that can request a few.

I have the RTAKII; sheath is decent for factory but it is 2lbs. consider that for the 10" blade.....it is hefty but chops pretty good ....RTAKII are about $70-100 ? vs. the others you listed, I do not own..I do like the micarta scales on the RTAK II though and the sheath has a pocket for a folder or what not...

I'll probably go with the machete. For the price of the RTAKII I might as well get a Browning Crowell Barker.

I would actually look into the new Ranger RD series knives that should be hitting stores in mid July.

i 2nd the Crowell Barker! it has a very nice balance and the edge seems to hold an edge for a looooong time.

Come on brother you need to talk me into the cheaper machete, not the more expensive blade I really like but probably don't need.

Seriously,I have thought a lot about the Crowell Barker but it looks so nice I don't know if I'll have the heart to use it the way I would a machete.

I've owned and enjoyed some 12" Trams.About the only thing I don't like about the Tram is the wood handle which keeps cracking on me.I've not owned a 12" Ontario though.

I can only comment on the RTAK. If you have huge, giant, monster hands then the RTAK may work for you, but I could barely grip the thing.

sounds like it might be a bit small for me...;)

i am looking forward to getting one at some point too...but it may be a while.
