I only bought this knife because I wanted a stainless blade for a dual purpose skinning/survival/camp knife. But it came out of the box like a butter knife. Is this a normal issue? It is unacceptable. I've never received a new knife and had this problem. The edge is rolled and micro chipped and It wouldn't cut paper or even catch on my nail. Very disappointed after all of the positive reviews I saw for this knife.

I definitely did not have that problem with mine. That being said I sharpen all my knives shortly after I get them. I bought this knife because I'm on a tropical island and rust is a big issue. Great knife at a wonderful price. Enjoy it.

That is very surprising. My Blackbird was the sharpest knife I've ever taken out of a box. I would contact Ontario and enclose some photos. That sounds much more like the exception than the rule.

If it is just dull, sharpen it. If it is rolled and chipped, send it back.

Not a cheap knife. If you are not satisfied return it or send it in to W&R. They will take care of it.

I suggest you take a pic and post it on the Ontario forum. They are very good at responding when it concerns a QC issue and they will advise you if the edge is deformed (chipped and rolled) and needs a replacement or if it just needs a sharpening.
