Perhaps it's not quite so obvious... or you might not have asked the original question.
Or to be less cagey with swords you get what you pay for. If you purchase a 100 dollar sword expect a 100 dollar sword. They are not cheap because someone feels like giving you a bargain deal out of the goodness of their heart, they lack many of thing things both aesthetic and functional that make a good sword and were probably pounded out in some third world country somewhere.
A lot of people are perfectly happy with a 100 dollar sword, they want something they can chop up brush with in the backyard or wear in their back scabbard at the local ren faire. I suspect that this sword is perfectly adequate for that.
Sirgalant, may I suggest to you that stainless is not the way to go in a sword. Its crystaline structure does not bear the stress of the longer blade as well as carbon steel does. If you doubt this, go over to SwordForum.com and read what the folks there have to say about stainless steel swords.
ok , thanks for enlightening me . the one i have my eye on isnt a blackwind katana anymore , but i know where to get a full tang with 8,000 layer carbon steel blade for $900 aussie dollars , with genuine rayskin and genuine japanese cotton .
