I was just wondering what you guys thought about ontario knives compared to esee and other known brands. Are they up to par with esee?

Ontario's just another knife company. No friend or foe about it.

the RAT1 is a mixed bag with me. Finish on the blade is awesome, locks up super tight, but it's completely unergonomic-I can't find a hold that fits my hand. There's also an inch of wasted space between the handle and the blade that serves absolutely no purpose. It doesn't work as a choil and just eliminates any extra control of the point you get from using a small blade. But if it fits your hands, so be it, for a 20 dollar folder you simply aren't going to get any better. Their camp machetes are great, with a good working V grind they are great slicers and choppers for the money.

I've always had problems with the rivets on Ontario machetes.
Anyway, to answer OP, nobody is going to give you a hard time about buying Ontario. If Jeff and Mike don't hold a grudge, there's no reason we should.

I like this one a lot.

Is that the tak?

Yes it is. Fantastic knife, thats fits my hand and needs just perfectly. Came with a crappy sheath that i replaced with a custom leather sheath form JRE.

To get back on topic...I have no loyalty issues between Ontario and ESEE. got products from both makers and ive been real happy with both manufacturers. I have my own personal views on the whole Ontario/ESEE thing, but im keeping them to myself, as people get very emotional on this subject. Like others have stated its quite the can of worms.

I removed the clip on mine and it fits great in my hand. It was my favourite folder until I turned my Endura into a scandi (was a sabre grind). Despite Ontario making the RAT-1 you have to respect how well RAT designed the thing - fantastic design IMO!

I don't own a machete, but when I buy one I think I will pass over Ontario and get an ESEE Lite Machete! Nothing wrong with Ontario, it is just that ESEE are really good!

me too, still looking everywhere for an original RTAK...

I have one of the original Ontario RTAK's. Are they now collectors items or someting? I'ts never been used but I've been thinking about getting it out and using it. I won't use it if they're collectables now.

I don't think so, I just like the design better than the 2nd RTAK and the Junglas, and I never see any on the fleabay.
