I'm not 100% certain, but my guess after looking at the pictures is that the butt cap is both threaded and pinned. The threads would be what actually bear the load with the pin just keeping the butt cap from unscrewing.

If that's how they are made it would actually be stronger than just being pinned alone---but I'm just guessing.

To answer your original question, I think Ontario knives are a pretty good value for the money.

I love Ontario and I have the Rat3 from them. Its in 1095 and is a Great knife. I also have a Pilots Survival knife that I would bet my life on. Ontario is a great company and makes good knives IMO.
