Once again, it appears OKC is trying to be a pain in the butt. We filed for a trademark on RC Knives and it was published on January 13th for opposition. Take a look at this: http://ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/v?qs=77499834 Ontario is actually considering filing opposition against our mark and has requested an extension for time to oppose this mark. One has to ask why any large company like Ontario would even consider filing an opposition against such a mark, especially when no knife company has ever used RC Knives as a mark except us. Again, I wish them the best in their business endeavors but this is just getting plain silly.

Sorry to hear the news. I wonder why they are being so stubborn? I think they just started making knives for Justin of Ranger Knives. I hope they do try the same BS with him.

What a bunch of buttholes! They just don't get it. I really want to buy another Ranger RD when OKC releases them, but I just don't think I can. I love Justin's knives, but I don't know if I buy one when I know where the money is going. It just drives me nuts. I might do the same thing I did with the RTAKII and just buy a pre-owned. It makes me feel better to give my money to an individual.

The sad part is Ontario has never had ANY knife or product marked "RC" in the past or presently. I suppose they would file opposition if we trademarked HOTDOG Knives or any other name. It's just plain silly. Again, I wish Ontario Knife Company the best, but our knives are here to stay. Last I checked we're still living in a Capitalist society where starting a new business and competing in the marketplace is still legal. Onward!

It's mighty big of you to wish Ontario the best. I think I might have a more difficult time doing so if I were in your situation. Hang in there! I'm sure RAT will prevail.

Does anyone still have the big dogs' email addresses over there? I'd like to wish them all the best too ...in my own special way.

SecSpyral, you mind if i steal that signature you got? That's way better than mine!

:D

Do it.

I really cannot believe the audacity of those guys.

They will never get any of my money, I know that.

Thats a pretty damn snake move on their part. I don't know that I could keep such a noble attitude but fortunately I, or rather we, don't have to. -_-

No need sending any correspondence to them. I actually sent a nice email today asking him to give me a call and let's try to settle all of this like gentlemen - so we all can go forward with our businesses as friends. There is no need for the fighting in this industry when it's big enough for all of us. Again, no need to email or call anyone at Ontario. I posted this up simply because I thought it was just plain silly that they are potentially going to oppose a mark that they have never even used or thought of. We (RAT Cutlery) do business very publicly and open. We feel our customers have a right to know everything going on with RAT and we do our best to keep them informed.

Oh well, onward!

I don't know you well, but with all due respect, I don't think they see it the same way. I don't think they go by the, "plenty of room" mantra. I mean, they ARE making a rather obvious move to muscle their way into your lively hood. Anyway, a good company with good people is hard to find, Im just glad you guys are the good guys. :)

I'm a firm believer in karma and I believe that justice eventually prevails in all things. Mike and I both visited their booth(s) at SHOT show and shook everyone's hand. All of the folks at Ontario are good people and maybe some day we can put all of this behind us and go forward.

This latest thing is what I call the "dog in the hot wire" syndrome. If you have ever raised and trained dogs like I have then you have probably seen this. If you take a bunch of Alpha males and put them in a large enough fence they will do ok. Now, if you have a hot wire around the bottom of that fence and one of them accidentally gets shocked, then he will run across 2 acres of field just to get to another alpha male and try to beat the hell out of him. So, in other words, it doesn't matter that he hurt himself and no one else is to blame, someone has to pay for his pain. Again, it's just plain silly when all you have to do is sit down like men and talk.

Jeff, the fact that you are trying to settle this the way you are once again speaks VOLUMES about you and the RAT Cutlery Co. Whether they are trying to cash in on the RAT name because they are selling well I can't say, although it may be a small part of it. There is more than enough room in the industry for everyone. You would think it would benefit them better to move forward and work on designing and making knives instead of this.

The way I see it more companies=stronger industry=heightened public interest=stronger community. I guess OKC just doesn't see it that way.

Best of luck, Jeff. I hope you can help them make the right and honorable choice.
