Ontario Military Knife

I have the Rat-1 and it is a fine folder for the price, mine carries great.

My Rat-1 arrived a couple of days ago - $25.95 for that folder, what a bargain! I've given it a sharpen and it cuts good, feels good too. You can use a knife like this whenever for whatever - no need to worry about harming your really expensive knife when you only paid twenty six bucks. There would be very few knives that can match the Rat-1 at the same price point.

I paid more for mine (about 60) but they are cheaper now and I am still happy with it .. gonna get one for a friend.

I have 2 of those Rat-1 they are cool knives for the price..i have to say i do like ontario knives..seem very sturdy and functional...I never expected to win the XM-1 auction..i was bidding on my cell phone...sometimes lady luck smiles on me

Just got the knife uesterday..its an awesom knife..little blky for EDC..but its a rugged knife..i would take it along in combat as a back up folder...wish the handle was steel..only negative..

I decided to dig this thread up because I have both the xm-1 and its thinner-handled sibling the xm-2. Have had both for almost 3 years.

The Ontario Extreme Military series should not be compared to regular EDC folding knives like the Spyderco Military or, for that matter, most your regular folding knives.

The XM folder is a thick bladed knife with a strong grind. At 5mm, it's thicker than the Ontario RAT-3or the ESEE/RC-3, while its open dimension is roughly the same as all those fixed blades. What the XM is, is a compact military folding field knife that can take the place of a fixed blade.

This is a folder that can chop and hack, pry and dig. And the steel choice is perfect for a knife that has to undertake such tough chores. Yes, with such heavy use, the knife can develop bladeplay, which is easily remedied by a quick turn of the torx.

It's a good knife to pack when you need a very strong blade in a folding package. And at its price, there's no other knife as robust.
