Anyone have this knife? I really love the look of the handle and wonder if it is as comfortable as it looks. The one thing I do not like, and this is because I am not one, well maybe an armchair one:D;), is the writing on the backside of the blade that signifies the knife is an "U.S. Army Ranger School" knife. It also has what I assume is the Ranger motto(?) , "Not For The Weak Or Fainthearted. But outside of that it is a very nice looking knife with a blade of 4.75" long X 3/16" thick 440C, is a full tang knife, micarta handles, and a sheath, though I didn't see a pic of the sheath so I don't know what it is constructed of although kydex would be nice.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has one and how it is doing.

I don't believe this knife is constructed of 440C. It's simply listed as "440", which usually indicates 440A. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.

.

Right you are about it not being 440C, and probably is 440A. Had 440C on my mind as I was looking at some Boker fixed blades.:)

That's perfectly understandable. Boker makes some of my favorite 440C blades. :)

Knowing Justin's penchant for making tough knives and considering the inscriptions on the blade, my guess is that the RTB was designed to be more of a tribute knife than a user. But that's pure speculation on my part.

I own one and have not taken it out to T&E,yet.

It comes with a ballistic type sheath that is more suitable for military use [ as the knife was designed ].

It is a very stout blade and I doubt most could ever break or harm it with even rough use.

Justin did well on this design,my only mod would be a bit longer handle.

I'd be interested to hear how your T&E goes. To the best of my knowledge, the RTB is Justin's only stainless knife. It might be interesting to compare it to an RD-4 Bush Knife if you happen to have one of those.

The RTB is in fact 440c and the handle is actually more open than the RD series.

The design came from the Ranger Forum Knife.

The CO of the Brigade picked out the "Shark"(Forum Blade) out of Justins' current designs.

Justin extended the handle of the RTB which was an improvement.

Ontarios' advertising is wrong on several models not just the Rangers ... seems they don't proof read anything.

My RTB is one of 29 (#25) that the engraver didn't add the curve to the Ranger bar so they were held back and then released at a later date with a certificate to collectors.

Hope you can see the handle size in the picture.

Hard to tell from my picture that the RTB handle is bigger(longer) than the Forum blade handle .... notice how there is no bar around Ranger and it's flat. After #29 the Bar is there and curved.

I think at the Shot show there will be a plain "Hunter" version released.

The knife feels great in hand and should be a great utility blade.

The dots glow pretty bright.

Lovin that 6 in S7, i missed my shot on those. Great Ranger collection, Justin would be proud.

Sarge ^^^ we do know each other,me as scaatylobo.

I own some of the same blades as you [ not as many Rangers ] and I am in love with the RD-6 that was mod'ed to make a longer handle in ironwood [ TACSAR did it ] and its is a larger beast and tougher than even the Ranger special.

But a bit heavier too, just a total beast and one that everyone who handles it says " geez, cant break that".

But then they say that of any Ranger I hand them ,LOL.

Zeke, Chestnut Ridge still has some of the Signature Series.

They actually cut way better than most would think.

At the Ranger West campout we beat the tar out of a SIG Series Afghan and it laughed at us.

While I truly enjoy your posts, my wallet feels like it's about to be raped, a little. :D

Thanks for the info on the RTB alloy, Sarge. Ontario definitely screwed up by not identifying it properly.

It'll hurt it's sales too. The issue was brought up on the Ranger forum and Justin told us what the steel was. Ontario put out the info on the web so it's out there everywhere and they didn't correct their site also. It's a bummer because one little letter or number makes a BIG difference as we know! lol

It sure does. And Ontario STILL isn't willing to acknowledge that it's made out of 440C. How do I know? Because I just called them and asked them. :(
