So sorry, I haven't seen this post in a long tine. I didn't know how to reply to you eitger, sorry about tgat. I use a Work Sharp that sharpen's great and at the same time puts a nice convex edge on my knives which I feel strengthens the edge better. I had an older Work Sharp but the Ken Onion one is the one I use now, tge belts are a little wider and much better to get up to the tip better without rounding it. Yrah, I got it to pair with my Gen2 SP-53, and no regrets. What surprises me tgat it's not as popular for the bush as I experience, I still think it's a awesome knife. I did sand my edges on my handle ever so slight and now it feels great. Yes, it's defenetly a "Sharpened Crowbar that works wood well" and the price is still great, Anyone thinking of getting a very strong knife, This one has my vote. I also have a Ranger Afghan and the Ranger RD-9 both of them are made out of the same steel but have tge Hi-Viz Orange G-10, I still use them today even though I think I ruined the RD-9 on one trip where a friend of mine and I batoned a knarly log for a fast fire, the blade curved and I thought that's all she wrote, but to our surprise it straightened out, I think the 5160 is a very good tough steel, That's why I paired my Ranger T.F.I. with my Gen2 SP-53 a great chopper by the way, For the money it can't be beat as a chopper. Now I have two pairs of very good knives. Happy Easter and to Everyone here.Out of interest, could you tell us what is the best way you have found to sharpen it please?
Sorry I took so long, But the Work Sharp especially the Ken Onion with the attachment will put a razor sharp edge on it, Infact I use it on alot of my knives, Then I just strop them, Again, sorry to reply, Yeah, I teamed my Ranger T. F. I. with my Gen2 SP-53, I took this pair out with me today, Plus my Wicked Tough Saw, I knew we would eat alot and watch the Brown, I luv my Brownies, But how many Browns does it take to win a Super Bowl, , , We'll never know heh heh heh luv them Dawgs !!!Out of interest, could you tell us what is the best way you have found to sharpen it please?
I agree, It's not a Mora, But I find after sharing it on my Work Sharp with a little Vex Job, I could do anything I need to do in the bush, I also feel very conformable with the built. I don't think I would be making a spoon in a survival situation, But I defenetly wouldn't mind having it in a survival situation.I have one and though well made, I find it difficult finding it's niche. Too thick for a good slicer. Too small to take advantage of it's heft for chopping. No
Dear Mastiff, Your right, All the weight is towards the handle and balanced behind my index finger, Although it's not a lightweight, But in my hand it feels very lite because how the weight is distributed. I never hesitate to baton chop with it, As far as a Bush Craft Survival Knife teamed up with my Gen2 SP-53 it's an outstanding combination, As a Bush Craft Survival Knife, I can split wood to make a hart board or how ever it's spelled very easy with it and tge fact it's extremely lite in hand I can use this 1/4" thick knife on most everything I need to do with it, With a good Work Sharp edge, All I have to do is strop it to get it very sharp again because the 5160 I even like it better than the 1075 steel blades that are prices similar to the T. F. I. I thought I paid more for mine back then but it was $69.00 not bad for what I got and how long it served me well. Again, I luv theite Feel in hand to maneuver it is very easy because it's so lite feeling, But it's a little tank in disguise and baton chopping it will take it all day Ling, The design is stile a good one to do bush crafting and I'm sure in the right hands, You can fashion a netting needle with it. I can, But I take my time. I luv the steel, tge design and especially what it cost me and I see you can still get it for & 69.00 search the price on Google and you will find it at that price. Yes, I also like the square handle, Square handles I control better sort of like my hockey stick, If round was controlled as well as a square handle than hockey sticks would be round, Bout round is only good for me in a baseball bat, Go Tribe (Cleveland Indians)I have one and though well made, I find it difficult finding it's niche. Too thick for a good slicer. Too small to take advantage of it's heft for chopping. No
