Ontario Ranger TFI VS Ka Bar BK15

Both these knifes would be durable its your choice of the style I would personally go with with the slightly larger classic Ka-bar

The classic Ka-Bar is good, but not what I would want for a camp knife. If you like the style of the classic Ka-Bar, the new Dog's Head Utility knife from Ka-Bar makes a much better knife for general purpose camp/bushcraft use.

That said, IMO, hardly anything beats a Becker for getting the snot beat out of it and keeping on going. I actually just asked 15 vs 16 vs 17 for general farm/woods use in the BK&T subforum, and everyone said that the 16 would be best for what I would use it for, which I am going to assume would be similar to what you would use it for. If you wanna go a bit bigger, check out the BK10, BK7, BK2, and if you want to go extra large, the BK9 (my personal favorite).

I'd go with the Becker, especially if it's your first dedicated camp knife. The sheath is rarely focused on, but it's amazing, and makes it easy to carry the knife and has an extra small pocket that I put a multitool in.

Also, check out the Ontario RD4. Tank of a blade.

BK15!

The BK15 is nealy half the price, nearly half the weight, and nealy twice as nimble. ;)

You don't need a 3/4lb .25" slab of steel to be 'durable'.

Better, more ergonomic scales on the BK15, too. If you want to upgrade them to micarta, it's another 30 bucks.

The BK16 is a great blade too. I don't have anything against Ontario knives, they are great. But for the price, it's hard to beat the KA-BAR Becker knifes.

Note: Esee 3 or 4 are alternatives that come stock with good handles and sheaths.
