Ontario RAT 1 or Spyderco Tenacious for EDC?

I am looking to get a new EDC knife to try. I have a benchmade mini-griptilian now, but i'm just looking for a new one to try. I like both of them, I was wondering what your take on it was. Thanks.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Get em both, they are both very inexpensive. RAT-1 is a lot of knife for the money, so is the tenacious. I like my tenacious, it does EDC duty for me when I'm not carrying a small fixed blade.

Value for money you can't get much better than the RAT-1 or Tenacious. You won't be let down with either choice.

I have both and prefer the Tenacious for EDC. It's more comfortable in the hand, the action is smoother and it's still perfectly centred after plenty of use, whereas the Rat-1 has shifted off-centre after minimal flip time.

Inexpensive is different to different people.

Go with the Spydie....

I only have a couple of Spyderco knives (for the moment) but I can say good things about the rat 1. Especially for the money..I paid around $40.00 CDN. It feels a little smooth in the handle, but does grip fairly well. I like the slim solid feel and it does sit nice in the pocket. The blade is aus 8 but if you take care of it, it will serve you well. And a nice chunky sounding lock.
Cheers.

I don't care who you are, $25 bucks for a folding knife (RAT-1) is inexpensive. The spyderco is slightly more, but I feel is a better knife. Both good knives though.

They are both great knives, but the Spyderco is better. It cuts better, and the G10 is far superior to the slippery plastic on the RAT 1. Also, the Spyder hole is better than a thumb stud.

I wish i could get both of them, however i need to buy a new camera because mine broke, so both is out of the question.

I like my RAT 1! I EDC either the RAT or my Blur. The RAT is a tank of a knife.

These are both very well regarded knives here, so keep in mind whichever choice you make it will be a good one.

One difference is the size of the handles. The Rat-1 is bigger; I have pretty small hands and it was too big for me, while the Tenacious fit fine.

I have both knives in question, and they are both great. I prefer the rat 1, because the Tenacious has a "finger guillotine". I also have large hands and the tenacious feels a bit small to me.

Here is a quick side by side shot.

The cheapest Rat 1 I was able to find is $28.99 shipped, the Tenacious is $31.99 shipped. I too am looking out to get them both. But I already have a handful of Kershaws, and a BM 580...so I'm not looking for a need of EDC, just a must have since I heard so many good things about them both.....I say get which ever one that presents a great deal at that time...

The handle material is the only thing keeping me from carrying the RAT 1. It is so cheap feeling, it really lets the knife down. I need to get some G10 and make some custom scales for it.

I don't have a rat 1, but will get one soon. But I do have a tenacious and it is a lot of blade for the money, very smooth action, good g-10, comfortable to hold and carry, great blade shape and grind, I have and love some more expensive knives, but I still carry and love my tenacious... not very helpful, but a vote for the spydie. it is certainly hard to beat

i have both as well for the money you cant go wrong get both you will be pleased!

Man, this one is tough. check out Cajunblaze's youtube comparison of the two. You'll end up getting both.

Dont get the coated blades, its practically painted on LOL

Also look at the Persistence and the new miniRat for edc.

As far as value, the Tenacious does have G10 and 8cr is said to be improved or equivalent to Aus8.
