I prefer the Tenacious because of ergonomics, i generally don't see the need of a dead choil area on a pocket knife.
The Rat-1 overall is longer than the Tenacious but the Tenacious' cutting edge is slightly longer.
You get more cutting edge on the Spyderco for a shorter overall length.
Personally I generally prefer a thumbhole over a thumbstud for opening.
If you like choils and thumbstuds get the Rat-1, if you don't then get the Tenacious. Quality wise they are pretty evenly matched.
