Ontario Rat 2 or Benchmade Mini-Grip

Mini grip would be my choice!
Rat 2 was pretty nice when I handled one at Blade though

I have just purchased the Rat II and have carried it for a few days now. I am impressed. I have had the Rat I for a while, and that was the same thing when I got it. Total value. I do love the grips, but as one of the previous posters mentioned, it's not the end of the world if they get broken or go missing. I too collect a lot of knives. You could get 3 Rat II's for the price of 1 mini grip, and they have different colors also.
It has a nice little flat ground blade that slices well. I will use this as my 'small knife' for now.
Tough decisions, but at the end of the day, it's hard to get buyers remorse when you don't break the bank.
Cheers

Not sure if you care, but the Mini Grip is American made. For all I know maybe you are Taiwanese and would rather get the Rat to support local manufacturing :)

About America, I care a great deal.
In fact, I am a fan boy and own lots of American made knives. I think Thomas Jefferson was one of the greatest men to walk this earth.
But I do know that Taiwan kicks many countries "you know what" when it comes to fit and finish. I also know that certain American companies have to send their 'high end' knives there, because they just do it so well. This being said, I don't think America has to worry about a few little Rat's. :)

I have some mini's and I say rat 2. While I reach for the mini 9 out of 10 times I need a knife from the kitchen utility drawer it's an 85 dollar not very sexy utility knife.

The axis is smooth as butter it cuts great but end of the day to me it should be a 65 dollar priced new blade to me.

PS if you've never tried an axis lock knife you have to as a benchmark. Now that i have tried one, every cheapie knife I buy and I love cheapie kknives get compared to the butter smoothness of the axis. I understand why one k wifey I'd 30 and another more. Which is part of the "knife journey" for me I guess for lack of a better description. And also why the rat 2 is such a good deal!

I would check out the Doug Ritter version of the Mini Grip before the regular standard version.
It is my favorite ECD due to the smooth as silk and fast Axis lock and blade geometry being a Wide-Chord Drop Point with a beautiful Stonewashed High Flat grind with CPM S30V steel - 58-60.
Perfect EDC size and non intimidating when opened in front of people.

I am however about to purchase an Ontario Rat II, with a satin blade and Orange scales.
I was made aware of the knife in another post by member 'Bear Claw Chris Lappe'.
And after a few days of investigating, I'm going to get one, the price it relatively low and if after I get it for some reason I don't like it,
I can always sell it.

This is my Ritter Mini Grip, my favorite EDC:
