I've only had this little gem for about a week now, and already I can tell you the love affair is going to be a deep one.
For less than $30, there is no better buy in my opinion. Don't tell Ontatio this, but if they charged $60 I would still pay it for the Rat II. I would love for Ontario to do a limited run with VG10 or S30V or some type of exotic metal other than AUS-8. The only experience I've had with AUS-8 is an old SOG Twitch II which served me well for more than 5 years so I hope Ontario's rendition of AUS-8 is comparable. This will be my EDC user. Im not going to be afraid of using it, I wont baby it, it's there to use without regard.
In hand, the Rat II feels perfect. It feels like an extension of my hand. The grooves line up where they should, the handle is neither too long nor too short. It's just right. The blade snaps into place faster than any non-assisted knife I've ever had. It flies into place and snaps with authority.
In pocket, it rides fairly low and seems to disappear into my jeans pocket. I think much of this is due to the slender design of the handle. As much as I love my Delica, sometimes I hate carrying it because it's so wide in pocket due to the thumb ramp & design. The Rat II disappears, and you forget it's there.
Very well done, Ontario. I've had knives that I've paid 4x as much and not liked 1/2 as much. Great EDC so far, Im looking forward to many years of use.
