I've only had this little gem for about a week now, and already I can tell you the love affair is going to be a deep one.

Specifications
Blade Length: 3"
Overall Length: 7"
Closed Length: 4"
Steel: AUS 8 Stainless Steel
Handle Material: Black FRN
Hardness: 57-59 RC
Weight: 2.7 oz.

For less than $30, there is no better buy in my opinion. Don't tell Ontatio this, but if they charged $60 I would still pay it for the Rat II. I would love for Ontario to do a limited run with VG10 or S30V or some type of exotic metal other than AUS-8. The only experience I've had with AUS-8 is an old SOG Twitch II which served me well for more than 5 years so I hope Ontario's rendition of AUS-8 is comparable. This will be my EDC user. Im not going to be afraid of using it, I wont baby it, it's there to use without regard.

In hand, the Rat II feels perfect. It feels like an extension of my hand. The grooves line up where they should, the handle is neither too long nor too short. It's just right. The blade snaps into place faster than any non-assisted knife I've ever had. It flies into place and snaps with authority.

In pocket, it rides fairly low and seems to disappear into my jeans pocket. I think much of this is due to the slender design of the handle. As much as I love my Delica, sometimes I hate carrying it because it's so wide in pocket due to the thumb ramp & design. The Rat II disappears, and you forget it's there.

Very well done, Ontario. I've had knives that I've paid 4x as much and not liked 1/2 as much. Great EDC so far, Im looking forward to many years of use.

Nice job, Brother d0nut. I have long been a fan of the Rat 1, and the Rat II looks like a worthy addition to the lineup.

Excellent job with the pics, I like the fact you had comparison pics, along with in the hand and in pocket. I have yet to pick one up yet, but I am sure I will at some point I really liked the Rat I. It's a fantastic bargain.

Thanks for the kind words, fellas.

I forgot to mention, the lock up is also very solid on the Rat II and the liner is fully engaged. Also, there is zero blade wiggle in either direction. Even when rigorously torquing the blade, there is no movement. Incredible for a cheap folder!

About the only thing that I dont like, is the blade is painted black. Over time when it scuffs or gathers scrapes from use it will probably look like hell. Or, look like it has "character" :p

For folding knives, I'm primarily a Benchmade/Spyderco/ZT person, with a few miscellaneous brands here and there. But I have 2 sub-favorites that I pay attention to: Ontario and EKA. Generally speaking, excellent knives at very good price points. I think I'll have to buy a second RAT 2 with a coated blade to match my pair of RAT 1s.

Be prepared for an abrupt and messy divorce come the end of August, 'cause the new $30.00 folder competition will have reached its zenith with the "Mosquito" by Randall's Adventure & Training; say hello to Zancudo....

Interesting! I see it's already available for $27 on another site.

It looks nice, but the blade shape doesnt appeal to me at the moment. I may look at it again a week from now and decide to get it, who knows?

For the price, it seems like a legit contender to the Rat II.

Yes, get both....but if it's the RAT Zancudo you want, better hurry and get your pre-orders in...word I got from a knife dealer was he initially ordered 75 knives, and has over 200+ pre-orders. It appears this knife, in this price range, with this quality is going to be an instant hit and hard to get.

It's almost beyond belief, how much knife Ontario sells with a RAT 1 or RAT 2. Simply an amazing value.

The first site I checked had them in stock??

I picked up a couple Rat 2's last week. Really well made for the price! Got a black on black and an orange on black, couldn't find the sage green and black.
