Ontario Rat II - comparisons, mini-review, and lots of pictures!

I hate to bump my own thread, but I just had a funny moment.

I was searching for something knife related, and found some blog with knife pictures, I was scrolling through it and saw one of my pictures from my review thread here. Then, I looked at all the people who liked it and "reblogged" it (whatever in the hell that means) and it seems to be pretty popular. :) I should have watermarked them!

Id say you bumped a not too old thread, so okay in my book :)

The pic is striking and hi-res, so small wonder that they ripped it off.
If it bothers you, send them a polite mail for a start and tell them to refrain from using your pic.

How does the nice Lum-Tec work for you - does it wear well?

Ohhh and about the OP; good mini-review, nice knife and great pics.
Now, if only they made a flipper :p

I'm not bothered, maybe flattered? I didn't think it was anything spectacular to be honest.

The Lum-tec is great, I also have the Combat B3 and in the past have had the M17 and the C1.

I was surfing for knife related pics some months ago and came across one of my knife pics (a pile of knives).
I was very surprised to see that it was some wanna-be Ninja site using my pic. The pic wasnt nowhere as good as yours either.
Must admit that it didnt bother me that much either. Im simply curious as to why they would steal such a shitty pic (but then again, it was some Ninja wanna-be site).

Mine should be in the mail when I get home from work. I got it after my Zancudo arrived. The zancudo can be tough to open. Looks like a winner. I only knew there was a smaller model Rat since last week. I got the satin blade though, because as you mentioned, the black paint wears off easily.

Thanks for the review and pics, d0nut. I picked up the Rat1 last year and have found it to be a great knife and an incredible value. Unfortunately, I have progressively carried it less and less due to its size. For a big knife, it fits well in the pocket, but it is still a big knife. I had thought about the Rat2 but moved on to other things so your review served as a useful reminder. I'll probably pick one up next month unless Santa happens to drop one off. :)

Nice review! What is the liner and blade thickness of the RAT2? equal of the RAT1?

My RAT1 had a blade thickness just under 3mm (0,118inch). Liners of 1,5mm (0,059inch)

Word is the Zancudo has put a major dent in RAT II sales, and I can see why....

....but it's only the beginning....when the ESEE/BRK "Avispa" comes out in January (the 20% or so bigger brother of the Zancudo), RAT I sales will most definitely suffer like a bad case of Herpes Type II. :p

I'm glad that you've bumped this thread as I've missed it.
Nice photos!!
I did pick-up RAT 2 in satin balde a month ago.
Not a bad EDC knife for $27.
How's black coating/paint holding up?

I have a Rat II, it's certainly as nice as the standard (large) version but I have found this one to be a little too slim, especially using the studs when flipping it open.....maybe I'm just too used to my 940 and Sage which are just perfect for me.

The black paint seems to come off easily with moderate use.

I don't mind, I think it adds character and looks pretty neat. But it will probably make some people mad.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the reason why

The Rat II seems like a capable knife that feels good in hand, and a value for less than 30 bucks.

What am I missing here?

Bump.

Just curious how/why the Zancudo puts a "major" dent in the Rat II sales?

I think they're both very comparable, and, priced about the same. If the Rat II was selling for $100 and the Zancudo for $30, then I could see it causing a "major dent" in sales. But what am I missing....?
