Ontario Spec Ops - Big 1095 Knives - Any Thoughts?

I own a quarter master (I think thats the name of it ) Big impressive knife good steel so far so good.

I had one of there machetes brake also,I had used it for years and they sent a new one no problem,so pretty good company I say.

So I got an SP5 and an SP14. Arrived over the last couple of days.

The SP5, well I was shocked at how good it was.
Excellent grinds, coating - and sharp. Not superwow crazy sharp,
but really decently sharp. Easily cut through newspaper without any
binding, for example.

The fit into the sheath is a bit odd, but overall I was really pleased
with this purchase. Just a hell of a deal for $41.95 + $6.00 s&h from
an ebay seller.

I'll write some notes on the tanto SP14 a little later.

I have many knives. As companies go this is a very general rating (my opinion only):

For general big knives "Ontario Knife" is the first place that I look. SPECOPS are great. I liked camillus (BK&T), but they are gone. Ka-bar over rated/priced.

Ontario Rat are great. SPECOPS the best deal. I have a SP16 SPAX as Army issue.

Spyderco is my favorate "general" folding knives. I carry the OEF knife

Gerber over Leatherman tools around here. I see Gerber ever where with the British Commandos and US Army. Never Leatherman. I have both...carry Gerber.

Cold Steel for all other non-knife type of blades. I have seen French Foregin Legion with CS knives.

ProTech, Godfather 951, military model (Automatics) and Ontario Knife Auto

Best foreign knife: Kukri, Nepal, British Army, by far the best. Gurkha's are great infantry Soldiers. This is one mean tough knife.

getting late must go to bed.

My favorite is the Survival Bowie (SP5). I have abused mine for nearly seven years now. Its the one next to bottom.

here is my modified sp 10, works great, and is now off to River City Sheaths for a Southern Comfort

Hi just looking at the pictures of the raider bowies, mine is different.I have a deeper clip point and the handle is straight in line with the spine,is mine an older version?Anybody got any info it would be appreciated.

With reference my previous post i imagine the bowie started the same as mine but you have ground off a good bit,This is the reason for what i would call a slight visual illusion of the handle being curved. Data blade if you wouldn't mind telling me how you moded it a bit more in detail . I like the look of it and wonder how hard it would be to do.Thank's.

I filed the top of the blade, and removed about 3/8" of metal at the top of the recurve, grading down to the original top blade at the hilt. The top of the blade had been in a straight line with the handle, yet when I removed the metal, it obviously changed the angle of blade vs handle. Then filed the recurve away, into a more straight line clip point, then sanded the black stuff off.
with a vise and coarse file, guess the project would take about 6 hours.

here is an earlier pic during the modification process

Recently picked up an SP19 to add to the Ontario Spec Plus collection.

Another very impressive knife!
Very thick blade and, again, very sharp out of the box.
Sheath is tough as nails, cordura and leather.

In my view, this knife is a real legitimate replacement for the Becker BK7 in many ways. Not quite as good, but the closest I've yet seen for the money.

Will be taking a couple of these SP19s (along with some other knives) on my trip to Central America this summer.

(BTW, had initially seen "Spec Ops" somewhere as the name for this line of knives, now I see it's "Spec Plus" on the Ontario site.)

I am modoifying a maine raider sp10 and have been trying to sand the black off after reshaping the blade, and am burning thru the hours sanding
do you have a better way of removing it?
