I know the bk7 has a loyal following and was wondering how the sp42 stacked up against the venerable becker offering.

Second: how does the 8" sp43 compare to the bk9?

third: is the ka bar short heavy bowie better than them all?

One of my larger carry knives in the Becker BK9; while I cannot say anything about the other knives you've mentioned (besides perhaps the BK7), I have to say that this is an excellent knife. The handle offers a wide ranges of grips and is very ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing for such a relatively simple design, the wide, flat grind offers great cutting power and the tip and spine are designed with strength, durability, and utility in mind. I particularly like the addition of the pry bar at the end of the knife for various chores such as (obviously) the pry bar, a hammer, and numerous other things.

The BK9 is a very impressive knife and I'd recommend it wholeheartedly. 1095 made in the United States of American can't be bad on any knife!

Can't comment on the Ontario, but the BK-9 is pretty impressive. Enough lenghth to be effective, thin enough to keep from being too heavy, w/ an easy to use handle shape. A nice tool if you need to chop AND split, without being too heavy.
