Leaving tomorrow myself, MS HD and Rattamahatta for an overnight in Cranberry Backcountry!

Weather looks favorable and a good campfire and camping is always a good thing!;)

The crew sharing the traditional bologna and beer post backpacking gourmet fare!

SWEET, I wish I lived closer! I would love to have my family meet yours...papa.

The first thing we noticed when we got there was there was a HELL of a lot more snow than at home(none).

Our intended route which would have only been a mile or so was ruled out when we headed out the forest road following 10" ruts and sliding since it was warm and icy slushy and then Rattamahatta's car got stuck and we had to push it out.:D

Our next try was to try to go in via FR 102 from the Cranberry Glades road but the Glades road was only marginally better. So rather than a mile or 2 walk in we had to park just off 55 and walk about 4 mile in.

The road thankfully was packed down slightly apparently by something the forest service had been hauling in. We didn't have any snowshoes and the melted top part sort of made it slow going. You could walk fast when you hit a rut where you had some pavement in.

Rattamahatta and I got firewood and Ms HD got her reel to try to snag the elusive trout

FR102 and FR76 are both gated but you could drive on them if they weren't.

Runs about 15 miles from the Cranberry Campground to the Glades parking area. This is the bridge over the south fork of the Cranberry by our shelter.

Took us about 3 tries but we finally got a nice fire going and melted some of the snow around the fire ring and got supper on.

Had a khuk in hand. Rattamahatta brought a small saw and a Rat 7? I think so we had the firewood chopping sawing down. We had enough to burn it till bedtime, have a coffee fire in the morning and then leave a dry pile in the shelter for our next homie to visit.

There was probably 15 inches of snow on the fire pit, I scooped it all out with my 12cm zebra pot!!

Two of the tools I brought, I can't say enough about the Wyoming saw, it ate through wood like butter!!!
