Oops....

SCRUFF....Congrats on the 2K milestone...I too have reached that mark (dunno how it happened??) and will do a giveaway shortly also....Ive admired what comes out of your workshop and would love a chance at one of your knives..Nothing exceeds like excess they say!.....Good luck to all...................FES

Congratulations on your 2000th post!

Noggin, kuksa, kasa...I've long admired these handcrafted drinking vessels made one at a time by individuals working at home or in small workshops. I have a friend who is making me one. I want to try it myself eventually, but I'm going to wait until I have an example in hand to study.

These are the tools I'm planning to use. I still need a hook knife. Am I missing anything else?

This is my favorite kuksa of all time. It is beautiful.

I'm loving the looks of some of these working and very purposeful traditional fixed blades

Christian - A drinking vessel could be a noggin.
But a noggin isn't just a drinking vessel.

Wow! That is beautiful X2!

Congrats on the 2K milestone. How times flys.

I would love a shot at one of your custom pieces! The best fixed blade Traditional knife I own is one my dad used in college. It was rusting away at my sisters when I first saw it. It had to be saved

Congrats on the 2k milestone, I always miss my milestones, I always wanna make my milestone posts something epic but usually I'm posting something stupid at that time.

I'm in the middle of doing my first carved chain links so I'll try to get pic up, it'll be a couple of days till I can start again on account of I cut myself because I was carving when I was tired so I slipped and slice that little web between my thumb and pointer finger, not bad but bad enough.

BTW not an entry but I will try to get a pic up of what I'm using.

Thanks for the generosity Scruff and good luck to everyone.

Well I never got myself into carving, but seeing in this forum the amazing stuff people are doing made it into my "wish-list", that is I am ready to start.
I actually started watching carving how-to on YouTube and learning about proper knives.

Thought I better give this a wee bump!

I've been on a bit of a forum hiatus I'm afraid; due to work, the season and generally being plagued by a snotty 'ed.

Still the lergie is subsiding now and I'll need to find some frugalk pursuits with which to occupy myself now the Christmas spending spree is all over.

Time in the workshop is long overdue and I shall endeavour to have some pictures up, at least of WIP, to spirit this along.....

Apologies for the delay my good fellows.

Scruff, not sure how I missed this? But congrats on 2K .

Please count me in on this Generous GAW...

Onya Scruff- Only just noticed this thread so hope I'm not too late. Firstly the 'Noggin" has a couple of meanings here.
-a straight piece of lumber fixed between wall studs to maintain spacing.
-the human head.
-a tot or noggin of rum in a cup of tea on a cold morning. (my Dad would give a noggin of rum to me and a kid I went to school with in the morning before we went)
Pics are of a couple of works in progress -the female form is now finished and given to my mum for her birthday about a month ago-she likes this type of thing -very tactile and arty.Queensland Spotted Gum very hard timber. The same for the knife handles and the fixed blade is a roughy forged by my son with hardwood decking timber for handles pinned with brass screws and surprisingly solid for my first attempt. Still needs works tho.
Cheers
PS yikes I just checked my post count.

Thanks for the opportunity, I'd like to get in on this one.
These are my only fixed blades, both inherited from Grampa Howard. I use the bone handled one for pretty much all food prep in the kitchen and the leather I use for hiking and camping trips mostly.

Congrats and thanks for your generosity.

Congrats to ya! Please count me in. Here's a homemade knife I worked up with a YP "Silver Steel" blade.

I would really appreciate an opportunity at this. I also like mystery.

I think this Culberson necker could do about anything I ask of it:
