Oosic is the petrified penis from a walrus. They are common in bars all over Alaska, and many are up to 10 feet in length.

I ain't ever seen a 10 footer, I have seen some in excess of 2 feet, any bigger than that and the poor animal would have a heckuva time crawling around on the rocks, as it is I run across many that have been broken and then healed. The oosic does have marrow in it, but otherwise is pretty sturdy. Why anyone uses it for knifehandles, I don't know other than it is tough and makes for a great conversation piece.
