After reading the custom Firesteel threads here , I was enthused to make one of my own out of the various goodies I have in supply.
First thought was antler , but then I rediscovered the Oosik I had in a drawer , after some thinking and work , this is what I came up with.

The natural bend makes for a good grip either direction you hold it ( up or down ) , the firesteel piece , I scored with a saw down low a few times , extra diagonal holes were drilled in the main hold for extra strength with the epoxy , this allowed for a little more of the firesteel to be exposed , better striking area , the oosik piece is also angled slighty which also allows a longer strike.

Next to a big matchbook for size comparison.

Thinking on the striker , have not made it yet though.

Be honest , tell me what ya guys think. :D

Be honest, huh? I think it's awesome. Very well done and pretty cool. I would stick to something more traditional (modern) for the trail due to size and weight, but that would be mighty awesome for car camping, lighting the grill, and that sort of thing IMO.

Very cool. You see a lot of natural materials here and in Traditional, but Oosik not only looks nice, I have been told it's a very durable material.

I have no experience with it myself, but it sure looks nice. I wouldn't hesitate to throw that in my PSK.

Thanks for sharing. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
