i always used my millie to cut stuff, and has performed admirably, but ...i didnt have the guts to open a can with it, because of the fragile tip, so i used, like always, my vic soldier's can opener
so im asking, anybody used the millie for that particular job ?

I've opened at least fifty cans of various items with my 440V millie. Take your time and you shouldn't have any problems.

thanks, i guess as long as i will open them myself, with proper care, the tip will be safe
i'l try it soon , to like the millie even more :D

It has never occurred to me to use the tip of a Millie for this task:confused: I have on occasion, opened a bottle or two using the Millie in the closed position, catching the edge of the cap along the spine and levering upward.

Usually the tip is not something to worry about when opening cans. I did it with a small folder and the edge had some dents in it, though those easily came out with a little sharpening.

i know, its about the cutting angle, and care , not to twist the blade , chipping the edge...but the millie has such a fine tip ...i had to ask
thanks anyway :D

the military is one tough knife, strong as hell, and as i said , is just the tip that had me concerned
i found here some pics of somebody even batoning the mille , CF one, now that i wouldn't do ...even if it survives for sure
hope its ok to post the link to that page, because it belongs to another forum ...so any mod can take it out if so

I've done it with most of my knives except for one of my slipjoints. I've found the Military does it alright, but I have older Camillus Electrician that does it best - screwdriver to punch the hole (has been "chisel" sharpened) then use the blade to do the rest.

Then again, a dedicated can opener works best.

I just use a cheap little "P-38" can opener. Why take the chance on screwing up one of your knives?

And yes, I happen to have one on me where ever I go. It's on my keychain. Been there since 1973.:D

Hahah, me too. Well... not nearly that long ;).
I actually prefer the P-52, more comfortable since the keys rest in your hand.

Well, somewhere, I have an old British army version, which I believe, is the basis for that one. It IS a lot more comfortable to use, but when all else fails, I stick with what works for me.:D:D
