Would Benchmade fans like to see an "open" design Axis lock folder?

Do you mean instead of the cheap(looking) plastic back-spacer?

If so then YES. That is my biggest complaint about benchmade knives.

When the axis system first came out they had clear griptillians on displays, but the plastic they used was deemed to weak by BM.

As an engineer, I read this as the Benchmade design is open to user input and is driven from that. Is this what you mean? I would vote for this one.

Sorry, I'm Working too much this week. I think I'll go to the gun/knife show this weekend and increase my collection:thumbup:

There was a post awhile ago about someone who made their own omega spring out of piano wire when he found out BM won't mail out new springs. :D

Yes, that's one of the reasons I bought the Resistor, but not too many new models are offered with an open design.

What I'm hoping for from Benchmade is an open-design simple titanium framelock knife, something like the old 750. If they can make the Bradley branded models, so can they produce one with a nice butterfly logo on it.

Jkarp-----Sounds good! Let Benchmade know about it. I called them today about an oped design folder.

Why would you want an open design like a Sebenza?

I like Sebenzas but I wouldn't mind if it was not open on the backside.

Thanks,
Rich

Rich,
I like the simple look and it's easier to clean and maintain. That's it.

Ok.

I my only concern with the open design, coins can find their way to the sharpened edge of the blade, if you keep the knife in the bottom of your pocket.

True, Rich. No matter what pocket my knife is in, the knife is the only thing in that pocket.

Open Axis??

You mean like this...

I own the BM 635 which features a monolock with an open back. It's a better design than the old 750.

I'm not sure I like the open back any more than a closed one. I just wish the backspacer wasn't plastic.

I got into knives well after that model disappeared, and have lusted after one ever since I first saw it. I'm not sure why, it sure isn't as pretty as some other knives, but something about it is very appealing to me.

EDIT: gmarthur, I took my 520 apart not so long ago, and unless I'm really misremembering, my pivot was very different from your 525 (2 pieces, with the flat going the full length of the pivot). Odd.

I'm all for it. I like the open design of the 940Ti a lot better than the 940, though the "positive" difference is no doubt purely subjective.
