Open carry NYC: 7" fixed blade?

Easy on the joggers. Some of us carry multiple fixed blades on us (yes, while running)Go for the rollerblades, they are easier targets, buncha figure skating sissies :D

Joggers should always be SNARED!

Then you can ....s l o w l y......decide how to deal with them.

In all seriousness, I always used to continue walking, and when they ran into me, they were the ones who fell down, complaining that I should have gotten out of their way. Lucky for them none of them pulled a knife on me. Three foot cane beats three inch blade every time.

Bicyclists, rollerbladers, and runners all show each other courtesy, especially on the pedestrian paths. Only joggers think they own the right of way. Bleep that.

That's it I'm strappin' the 223 swift to my shoulder and I'm goin' huntin' in Central Park, I wonder what's in season right now?

223 swift isn't bagging you anything but ringing ears... you need at least a .308.

It would be only a matter of time when someone (probably a panicked individual) will see that 7" knife and call in a complaint to the authorities, fishing or not. It was said that blade length resrictions does not apply to hunting/ fishing activities. Yes if it is being done in a city designated area for such activities. The problem is, there does not seem to be any designated area for hunting and fishing in the city of NY! In NYS (New York State), it is a whole different ballgame. NYC (New York City) is a seperate geographical location outside of NYS. And the restrictions placed on blades are Administrative Codes and/ or Rules and Regulations. NOT law. However, STATE law must be observed. And so too must the Rules and Codes. Or risk possible violation charge, fine, confiscation, arrest. If unsure about possession of knives, call your District Attourneys Office.

Dep Fife, welcome to BFC.

Tourists.
It's Tourist Season.
Tourist Dodging will be an Olympic event.

Joggers run around town with their heads down, gasping for air and bumping into people. Tourists stand transfixed, looking up in the middle of a crowded sidewalk.

Fifth Avenue and 34th Street, southeast corner, one woman with a distinctive southern accent asking another, "I wonder where that Empire State Building is?" Walking by, I answered her, "Look up." They looked up and up and up and up ... and nearly fell over backwards. :D

I like tourists. I have never been inconvenienced by tourists. I always make it a point of honor to go over and volunteer to help when they're lost. I'm just a tourist in this great wide world myself.

There are dedicated fishing piers in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
I lived in the East Bronx for a few years, on Bruckner Boulevard, a short bicycle ride from Ferry Point Park by the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge. I'd come home from working nights, get on the bike ands peddle to the park. Walking along the shore, you could see the bottom move -- a layer of horseshoe crabs. There were always a few old fishermen, too, pulling in eels.

Thaniks for the welcome. This is why this job is so exciting, you learn something new everyday. I googled "NYC Knife Laws" and found Bernard Levine's site, which linked to a letter someone received from a Queens Assistant Dist. Atty. Here is the important part: B.

It shall be unlawful for any person to carry on his or her person or
have in such person's possession, in any public place, street or park
any knife which has a blade length of four inches or more.

C.

It shall be unlawful for any person in a public place, street or park
to wear outside of his or her clothing or carry in open view any
knife with an exposed or unexposed blade unless such person is
actually using suck knife for a lawful purpose as set forth in
subdivision d of this section.

I think they meant "such" not "suck" in section C, "suck" would be up to interpretation!
Anyhow, I guess that fisherman should be ok wearing his big ol' knife. Just another reason for us upstaters to dislike NYC-too many laws!

I had a tourist ask me:
"How do I get to Carnegie Hall?"
(Really)
I told him:
Practice!

Then I pointed across the street to the bldg.

Fishing in and around the city is great. My biggest striped bass came from the East River and measured 32"
Bluefish to 12lbs.
Largmouth bass in most city park ponds too!
