Want a unique outdoors experience? Want to test your survival skills? Up for a challenge? Ready to demonstrate your ability instead of simply talking about it?
If so, why don't you come to the Wilderness Learning Center's January winter camping trip? Did I mention it is free of charge?
We will snowshoe into the campsite with pulks in tow. Many will set up tarp shelters and some tents. We will eat like kings and share plenty of knowledge informally. Learn in the field from us, not online. From anonymous authorities.

When:Sat through Mon of Martin Luther King weekend.
Where: at the WLC in Chateaugay, NY
Who: anyone willing and able
What: real winter camping and survival skills
Why: to separate the BS from reality and have an awesome time in the woods with friends

Emsrescueguy,
You know you're always welcome up here. Thanks again for all the med gear from the last time.Hope to see you next month.

Not much could keep me and my son away. We will be there.

Last year was great trip and it gave me a chance to introduce my son to winter camping. He came away with the knowledge and the confidence that he can camp in the cold.

Considering all the knowledge and skill that will be there I would survive the weekend. But being that it falls on my 10 year anniversary, I wouldn't survive the wife when I got home.

Camping will have to wait till february..

Tony,
We'll make up for it in the last weekend of Feb. Talk to Gene yet?

Same boat. I'll be in Costa Rica with the Miss.

She would render all the blood out of my body until I was dead, if I went camping instead. She would then kill me again just to spite Science. SOon though, I shall venture up there

And I messed up and have a pig/quail hunting trip scheduled for that weekend in SC. Doh!

You saying she is a sangravore Joe? You're excused buddy but we still need a mods trip.

Scott,
Glad to see you and Harpoon are up for the weekend. I am sure you'll have something to test out (you always do). We're going to have an awesome group this year!

Any other makers or forumites up for it? So far lungcutter and Scott get the medal for traveling the farthest. Must tell you something about the trip and the experience.

Over the eight years I was at Fort Drum, NY. I wish I could come up there but Uncle Sam says no! You guys will have a blast! Have fun!

Darn, I would have been able to go closer to the 30th, but I have two big meetings on the 11th and 21st that bracket the weekend in question. After that I'm relatively free.....:(

Kev, what happens if a person doesn't own snowshoes or is physically unable to do so...are they out of the picture?

is this a regular thing annually?

i've been needing a retreat back east for quite some time....

No snowshoes? I have an extra pair. If you need a different set, many places like EMS offer inexpensive rentals. They usually also take the rental fee off the purchase of new ones.

Vector,
You and your hawks have a place to stay if you show up. We use a lot of axes on this trip and I'm sure you'll feel right at home.

Dang that is one generous offer, especially with the additional offer to loan your personal gear out. Even though I won't be able to make it this year ( I'll be in class and usually have papers to write over that holiday every year), I wanted to say thank you for your offer. I graduate in May of 2011 so maybe the winter of 2011/2012 I'll get to do some real camping again.
