  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Opening Coconuts

Yeah, but that's a GREEN coconut! In order to explode a coconut you gotta' use one that's firmed up! :D

Correctamundo! Plus an obtuse-edged, 2lb, 10" bladed chopper, a concrete slab, and a healthy dose of over-enthusiasm! :p

BOO-YAH! :D

I'll probably use the Nicholson/Collins machete that I haven't modded yet, just in case I ding the edge. I'm almost done getting the second side polished up, so I don't feel like abusing it just yet! :D

What type of steel and what Heat treat was used....I was wondering why the gap between the blade and guard...just curious...Looks heavy duty...how thick and what length is the blade and handle...The temper lines look really nice...The handle, black Micarta groved via dremel tool? Screwed or riveted on slabs? Have you thought about placing the safety cord hole more forward like the Warren Ozborne technology used in Blade Sports....Peace and God bless...

It works. I used the corner of a concrete stair to open a coconut. Simply hit it on the edge of the stair(or whatever other somewhat "edged" item you have), all the way around the coconut, and it neatly splits in half. You don't even need to hit it hard, just a little bit more than a tap will do it.

I tap with the spine of a fixed blade, usually my Marbles Ideal. Works like magic.

My wife grew up in the Philippines where coconuts are everywhere, and this is the method she taught me. Why use brute force and have everthing flying all over the place when you can finesse it open?

Because it's fun. :D

He lifts the rock so that it has a space underneath it. the impact of the rock against the other rock is what breaks it. Its the classic two brick break move use in shotokan and other martial arts. The finger in between the bricks makes 'em clang together to break.

That may be more knife than you need for the job.....

Agreed, unless you're just opening them to have fun and waste them. I just use a limb or such to drive the point of a much smaller knife through one of the "eyes" to split them open...after I drink the milk.

Nice looking beast of a knife though, you could probably half a deer in one blow lol.
