Opinel head count.

I got a boxful and I love 'em all. My favorite is a carbon #7.
Okay I'll bite; Dijos, how do you flick them open?

I have one I keep in my slingpack. It is a back-up knife to my back-ups. :)
I am thinking of cutting a finger groove in the handle, make it easier to open.

Basically, the knife has to be really well worked in, and one thing that really helps (quickly) is to put it in the oven at a low heat to suck the moisture out of the handle. Then you cann flick it open using a regular inertial opening. It takes practice, but it can be done.

I have two stainless #8s. One is always in my lunch bag. When I am going to large picnics or similar gatherings, I make sure I have one with me.

I have a carbon steel #8.

 Low cost, fairly sharp, and handle can be carved.

:thumbdn: Neither the lock or blade can be worked one handed easily. My main grip is the handle can swell when wet or when the humidity is high causing the blade to stick.

I've carried Opinels since the '80's, my first was a carbon #12 that I EDC'd for quite a while; a large knife, but extremely light and therefore didn't damage my pocket that much. I have a half dozen around right now; some 8's, a 9, two 10's, the original 12, and my newest, the large walnut-handled fillet knife: really nice!

I've known about them for years, but just recently bought two from Ragweed (#8's). Gave one to my daughter. Great knife, I use it mostly in the kitchen, don't carry it because of the two handed operation and lack of clip. Easy to keep sharp, and I like carbon steel blades.
