Opinel No12 mod to UK EDC! - awesome!

I like the OPs mod. The #12 is too large for comfortable pocketing imho but the end result looks good and is a more appropriate size for my pockets - might give it a shot mysekf.

That's my thought too.
I have to admit that I am a bit wary of removing the locking ring. Even though Opinels didn't always have one I like that bit of safety. Obviously the OP can't leave the lock on as is but I wonder if a bit of dremel work to carve a deep "V" into the ring where the blade rests could create a safety stop to prevent the blade closing on fingers. I am probably over thinking it :)

You might consider staining it with mahogany dye. That, and a nice, glossed lacquer to finish it off.

Sweet job either way!

Have modded several Opies 6,7,9 (two carbon, one stainless); made them clip points, easy opener handle, flattened handle on both sides so them don't roll away and some painted handle black. Opies are great knives, take an edge the you could shave with (if you chose to shave with a knife).

I actually shaved with mine last night. I cut myself mildly, but it was an interesting experience.

I can't tell if I'm more sorry for you or for the trashed Opinel you modded just to fit in with a herd of bleaters.

100% agree, this forum is a knife appreciation forum, and I don't appreciate this Mod. I think it would be an excellent time to ask if there is any commercially available knives that meet these UK knife laws, but also satisfy this guys interest in a more robust blade, and also being a nice tool for the edc job. Surely there must be a market for this.
