opinel question

do the larger opinels such as the number 10 have a thicker stock than the smaller models like the no 6 or 7

My wife's #8 is ground from thinner stock than my #10 and #12

I dont know if it is the same always tho .

The regular opinels normally have a thicker stock when their blade is longer:

This is however not always the case on their special ones(Effile,...)

Thanks for the replies so far....I'm trying to decide what ones to get....I've had a number 7 and a number 6the six was little small the 7 seemed just right.... but something like a 10 while to big for edc would be might handy in the woods and maybe a little more durable...but for most things I guess the 7 is good.....I wish they made the carbon models with a spearpoint blade....

As much as I like Opinels for edc in suburbia, I would not bother carrying one in the woods. If I have a Fiskars hatchet or my 12 inch Ontario, then I want one of my more traditional pocket knives like my Buck stockman or Wenger SI. Both are knives that I know can take exsessive water exposure and are a bit tougher than an Opy. With the stockman I'll have three blades in one package.

Jackknife has a valid point
My opinels jammed up when I was in the tropics , the wood swelled with the humidity , they still worked , just very stiffly .
Their carbon steel blades do rust too if you wade thru rivers / in the ocean and forget to dry them out / oil them again ...
the sticking problem can be lessened by oiling the wood handle , or by disassembling the knife and sealing the wood handle with clear paint / varnish / wood sealer etc ... naturally you should reassemble the knife afterward :)
the rust , hey , its carbon steel , get it wet and leave it wet , itll rust , but if you are able to care for a knife , its not a problem .

jackknife I've been trying to email you...if you wouldn't mind shooting me an email at judoemtb@yahoo.com I have a 303 that needs to go back to buck for some wobble in the clip blade I have th box and paperwork, and it's yours to use as a spare if you want it...thanks for all the great stories. Cheers.

I have had major problems getting them to keep a decent edge. I've gone through 3 Opinel 7's from 2 different orders, and they just go dull in a few cuts.
That sounds more like a wire edge. You need to give that new Opinel a light sharpening, making sure you clean off the wire edge/burr.
