Hi there,

I just get my 2 Opinel slim knifes today.
But I just noticed there are holes / pits at the end of the handle on each knife.
May I know what are they used for or why they are there?

Thanks

I'm just guessing but I suspect these are holes left by something holding the wood in place from the back while machines cut it to shape. I suspect there is something similar holding it from the front. Visualize holders for corn on the cob.

emm, but so far I didn't see from any other images from Internet which having the holes...
And from the front, not found yet.

Thanks for replying.

I have had about a dozen Opinels over the years. I have seen little marks on the front, too. Never thought of them until now, though.

Maybe inspectors marks? They probably inspect one out of ten. Then mark them.
