Opinel!!!!

Yea i was scratching my head when he said a million a day? Still 26,000 a day still seems like bizzaro world.

I almost bought that box set withe every numbered knife up to 12 i think. Your choice inox or carbone?
Came in a nice wooden box. Think it was $160 and was always in and out of stock. Never pulled the pin.

Just looked on opinel site. A bit more now. I had added the prices up for each knife and if bought separately at the time it would have cost more and you wouldn’t have a nice display/storage case. IMG_5070.png
Anyone on the forum ever bought this set?

The production figures for Victorinox exceed that. It was several years ago that I saw an article in Knife World, and it was like 35 million SAk's a year.Since then they've invested in newer higher speed production machines.

SAK’s? Are using that as a comparison? We are talking Opinel in this thread?

I like them a lot and went on a kick a few years ago, bought numerous models. I still like them, but I stopped buying them when they changed the way the lock works. Used to be you could just keep moving it tighter and tighter until you got the lock up you desired. You could just twist it further as the lock wore. You could also turn it either way to lock it. Now they put another dimple that limits to travel and you only have a certain window to where it locks correctly. I don’t think most people have a problem with this, but I tried a couple that I wasn’t real happy with and have stopped buying them. Hopefully I’m remembering and describing that right it’s been a little while since I’ve played with one. Somebody more familiar or more recent handling can correct me if I’m wrong.

I’ve always been intrigued by the simple little knives. I’ve read dozens of posts from guys singing their praise and I’ve come close to ordering myself one a handful of times and just didn’t pull the trigger. They’re not really my style, I’m more into the tactical folder scene. I love my Spydercos and Microtechs, and have told many Case carriers at work it’s goofy in today’s time to carry a knife that requires two hands to operate!
So while walking around the Wannenmakers gun show with my dad and two youngest boys I happened across a table covered in opinels. My boys by this time had tried to get me to buy them 10 different knives and 20 different pistols, request denied! I told the oldest one if he wants a new knife this Opinel No.8 should be the one. He wasn’t super excited about it and wanted to look more so I pulled the trigger on it for me! Probably the best 20 bucks I’ve spent in a long time. I ended up getting the boys each a Kershaw later on.
Man o man I don’t know what it is about the simple little thing but I just can’t leave it alone. I’ve got a SNG in my pocket that’s getting no love cause my new $20 Opinel is cutting everything in sight! I hear they get scary sharp too so I think I’m gonna bust out the old water stones that I can’t use for any of my other knives and go to work!
I already love it, and can’t wait to skin a squirrel with it! Seems like it will be the perfect tool for the job!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and if you’re in Tulsa for the gun show hope you’re enjoying my home range!!!

I'm going to have a few #5's sent to me.
A retired Legionnaire I know said they use them for everything.
They use the #5 since it doesn't lock & is legal in the EU.

i guess (correct me if i'm wrong) you can go up to number 7 if you get rid of the lock to be u k legal ?!?
