Just a quick question for all you folks at BF.

I’m not a fan of knife companies who have their own subforums to be posting in General Knife discussion. I feel it is unprofessional and unnecessary. I’m not trying to upset anyone...but looking for others opinions.
Once one company does this, whats to say all the rest wont start to post in General? I dont want to have to sift through how many pages of PKC’s posts in the morning. Its just, in my opinion, distasteful.
If im looking to follow a production company, I will watch their subform.
Im just hoping BF doesnt turn into a platform like IG with random “fishing” posts in GKD.

Let me know your opinions!

Depends on the content. If it’s just an advertisement it seems a little out of place. But they are hopefully knife nerds and deserve to enjoy the whole forum.

They are paying good money to be here and are supporting the forum.

edit to add that I now know they don’t pay to be here. Dealers do, manufacturers don’t.

I don't see any problem with it IF they are a paid BF sponsor. In fact, I'd encourage it because I find it insightful to hear things "from the horses mouth". I trust the moderators enough to keep the discussion ON POINT.

Would we not just go to the PKC’s subforum to hear it “from the horses mouth?”

It’s okay...... Especially when you have brand specific posts by regular members in the General section.
But I would be against commercial type threads started by the Brand. It would get too busy.

So far lots of great opinions. :D
Thanks folks!

If I remember correctly, manufacturers dont pay for sub-forums...they just have to put in a request and appoint a Mod

as long as it provides useful information
or has entertaining content; it won't matter
but i haven't seen ganzo post anything as yet for anyone to refute such a notion as
nearing repulsion.

I lean toward your view for specific knives. I am assuming you are referring to one particular company and generally they post general interest stuff which I am okay with.

If it seems that they are doing it just to get eyes drawn to their brand, then yes, it is in poor taste. Things like making it a weekly event, asking to have you click to go somewhere else, or announcing new knives embedded in topical posts are examples IMO. I think we can all be grown ups here and name kizer as the current offender. Certainly others are guilty.

If the mods and spark are okay with it, then the rest of us must be as well. Their house. We can make a mental note, not feed the thread, and remember when it is time to buy a new knife. I'm of the opinion that if you have a company sub, you should make your self serving threads there. That is what it is for.

You have just stated what made me start this thread in the first place...thinly veiled.
I agree that it is up to the mods.

And an FYI (unrelated to your post). I didn’t attach a Brand’s name to this thread, because if it was any other Brand...I still woulda stated my opinion.

I don’t really post very much, so I’m not sure my opinion carries much weight, but I have no issue with brands posting general topics in the general forum. As someone who spends hours each day on this website, anything new is a cause for excitement - I read everything on the general forum. The topics that have been started don’t focus on the particular brand, and ask questions that I think are more interesting than a lot of others. Just my thoughts

Your opinions are valid. :) Hence an opinion thread. Thanks for posting.

Its the hidden agenda that slips out sometimes that bothers me the most.

I have no problem with it as long as the threads create good discussion, which they have. They've been a refreshing change.

IMO, if you have a problem with the threads that have been started, let a moderator know. If the mods have no qualms with it, just drop the subject. There's no need to start a thread to get the opinion of others.

You made your opinion known on the last thread they created. Just leave it at that.
