I see a TON of knives emblazoned with slogans; We the People, Don’t Tread On Me, Let’s Go Brandon, Trump 2024, and many more.

Regardless of the knife quality or slogan/political affiliation plastered on the handle, I find it to be extremely cringe worthy. Even country flag themed handles are borderline in my opinion.

I’m probably in the minority here, but why do we need tacky slogans on our cutting tools??

I feel the same way about firearms, but this is a knife forum :)

I think the same way. Don't want any slogans on my knives or firearms. Don't forget those flag pins all the politicians wear While they take money under the table from foreign sources.

Depending on the level of garishness I can see why a lot of them are cringey. I do, however, think it gets less obnoxious as time goes on. There’s a knife store near me that has many collectible (though inexpensive) knives from the 60s and 70s- think Lone Ranger branded, old political knives, etc. I can see how the historical part is kind of cool, nostalgia, and the knives are usually decent for the price.

But, I agree, it makes most knives feel like a tourist knickknack. I don’t even like Case’s flag knives, which are done probably the best as any could be. As for political slogans, again I could see the draw as a historical item regardless of affiliation- but the Chinese specials that have a presidents name in bright red letters is pretty cheesy. I feel even worse about guns, it’s just marketing that feels misplaced.

I don't even like too much marking on the blade, like steel, model number, patent number, country of origin, etc. I do understand some of them are necessary.

Yeah, for me at least the line between this stuff and and that featured on the tacticool thread is very thin. But it is a continuum, with things like gift inscriptions and bible verses on one end and ridiculous 'roid-rage-meets-cartoon-violence crap on the other. I generally prefer a nice, sterile stonewash or satin blade.

People gonna like what they like, and that's cool. People also gonna mock what they mock...

When I bought a CS warcraft tanto, a nice knife BTW I didn't like the "warcraft" on the blade or the stone wash finish so both came off. Now a nice shiny slab of 3v.

Name/where made/steel type is more than enough for me, even those the smaller the better.

If I agree with the politics on the knife emblazoned with those politics it’s awesome and every knife should be made like that

It depends on what’s on them. Some are clearly intended to be silly or cute, and I have no problem with that … though I probably wouldn’t buy one for myself unless it was absurdly silly. But social and political messages? Kindly keep ‘em in your pocket.

I feel the same way, but I also feel the same way about bumper stickers, yard signs, and flags flown on a pole that aren't the US flag. I have never been so on the fence about something that someone's tchachki swayed me. I have never been so "all in" on something that I would pay a premium to show the world that I cared enough to have my knife scarred with it.

One has to remember that it sometimes only takes one fact to sway one's opinion (political or otherwise) 180 degrees, but you're stuck with the knife forever ;)

A similar topic about knives with religious symbols came up a while back. I believe it was centered around the notches near the ricasso of traditional khukris. I'm personally ambivalent on the subject, while I find slogans a bit tacky myself I hold no ill will towards those who choose spend their own money on them. My personal preferences lean more towards a sterile knife.

Generally knives with cringey logos or text would have been pretty cringey without them as well.

Its advertising gimmickry. If you don't like it, ignore it, don't look at it, don't buy it, and don't try to tell me I should have a problem with it also.....

I don't think the guy who had 3 accounts, all agreeing with each other in one thread should really be too critical of what other people choose to put on their stuff.

That said, I find it extremely tacky and would not do it myself, unless I felt the need, then I'm okay with it 😁

Hell, if people want to plaster their property with goofy stuff, I appreciate them warning me that they might, in fact, be goofy themselves.
