Opinion on budget EDC

^ Yes! My serrated native in S35V is a monster cardboard eater! I love it! Serrated edges are not for everyone admittedly though.

Cutting lots of cord with a knife at your budget, you'd probably want to check out serrated blades. I've been checking out the Victorinox Ranger, anyway I think that's the model like the one issued to the Swiss Army. It has a full serrated blade that locks as well as other tools. There is a way to sharpen serrated blades, something I'm looking into. I'm sure you'll find plenty of advice on this forum. Otherwise for all day cutting you'd have to pretty much blow out your budget to get a plain edge that could last all day.
If you're set on plain edge, check out the Buck Spitfire. I noticed you have a Buck 110. I use a cheap kitchen knife steel that I picked up at Walmart on a whim, less than 10 seconds and my 110 is razor sharp. Also I've found a ceramic coffee cup works great to touch up the edge. If you learn a bit of sharpening with the Buck it just doesn't take that long. While you put up with touching up your blade every few hours you could save up for a knife that can do what you want.
