Opinion on current Marbles brand knives?

The steel should sharpen about like the CV Case uses, maybe just a bit harder. Quite a few industry people thought Cold Steel's Carbon 5 was 0170-6. Another knife I like is the Blackjack Trailguide. It is 1095 which would sharpen a bit easy I think but would not be as stain resistant.

I only have one Marbles and it's abut ten years old. It is a great cutter/slicer. It has a pretty thin blade. One of the better knives that I have used. Mine is flat ground.

I have several Marble's knives of the Mike Stewart era. I find them very nice knives. I also have a few of the newer Marble's in the Classic Series line and I find them to be a well made knife for the money. I have used mine on several deer hunts. They have field dressed several deer in a row before needing a touch up. A couple of the ones I have were made at the Camillus plant before they closed. Their newer blades are made out in Washington and assembled in Gladstone. That is for their Classic Series line of knives.

I think they have kind of gotten a bad rap because some of their knives are made overseas, but not all. The 0170-6 knives that I have have held an edge well and sharpen nice for me on a ceramic stone. I think they are pretty nice knives. JMO.

Why not buy a knife from Stomper or ML knives etc that you know will be great and yet still have that old time look and feel to them !!!!

Good advice Pit. I have not tried the ML yet but Stomper, Koyote and DPKives are a great value. I am sure the other Makers here do fine quality work as well, just have not tried the others.

Bought a newer one just to see...

OK, for what it is. No real comparison to the 1940's Bakelite handled wood crafter.

Haven't checked prices lately, but a slightly damaged old Marbles might just be a little more money, but a lot more satisfaction. I smile each time I pick up or use the old knife.

I don't much care for the rubber handle of the new one...but...they didn't ask me when they were choosing materials. :)

Mine has the blade of the top one in the picture and the handle like the bottom one. For me I much prefer the rubber handle for use although it's not as classic looking.

I think the rubber handle ones are made in China with 420ss. Not a bad knife for the money. My wife has one in her kitchen.
