Opinion on Spyderco Captain?

If I end up with one I'm going to square up the spine at the swedge for use as a striker. It just screams it to me.

Nice, I am still undecided on this side. If end up getting one and you square up the spine be sure to share some pics!

I love mine has a bushcraft knife but not an EDC...

Treg,
What are the advantages of it as a buscraft knife? (as opposed to a fixed blade or conventional folder, both of which I would hope to have with me away from civilization) How do you use those lines/angles? For what tasks?

Hey Dave, this is my personal oppinions on the captain. First of the front part of the blade(tip) is great for skinning small game and cleaning fish. It also make's a good precission carving tool. The second part of the blade is excellent for cutting rope and also for carving on bigger pieces of wood, thue to the shape of the blade it tend to bite into the wood instead of slidding. Hope this help's...cheers!!!

Any comments are welcome....and yes, your opinions DO help. Thank you, and thanks to everyone else for their input. Would you ever go for larger game with that blade, or is one of my conventional skinners the way to go??

Funky blade shape. Good company. Is it good? bad? ugly? useful? Or a combination? Does anyone have one, and if so, what uses do you have for it that other knives do not seem to "fit?" I have not found a retailer that stocks one here in Charlotte, NC, but the "ergo test" is round two of the process. Just wondering if it is only a collector's item, or if that blade shape gives it a killer advantage. Do you see any drawbacks or huge advantages. I would not carry this alone for EDC due to the blade shape, so that is not what I am asking. I simply have not heard much about it. I have read the writeups about the Capt's intended uses, but I am wondering if anyone has put it through the ropes. Thanks guys.

Have always been a fan of this knife - got a good deal on a NIB one right here on bladeforums - I should be getting it this week - will post how I feel about it.
